Hi ladym,
Wow..Lucky you..I have not tried baking so I always buy..LOL! I am hoping to give time to study this so that I can make for them, I know it is more sweet when it's from our own effort plus we can save also!
In that case, we can design on our own base on their favorites! I know I can do it but I am just lazy to start!LOL!

We usually by the birthday cakes, we simply place the order and the inscriptions we want to see on the cake, and then pick it on D Day!

We normally make our own cakes. Yes it is cheaper and it gets you involved more. Sometimes we may buy the toppers that you can get at grocery stores. You figure if you were to buy the ingredients to make a cake it is around 5 dollars plus 3-5 dollars for the topper. That is till way cheaper than paying 20+ dollars for a cake. And in my opinion homemade cakes taste better, and can be made more personal, like you have more flavor choices, and such. So to make a long story short I prefer to make.

We have done both but now we are getting more into making them. For the older kids and adults we sometimes don't even make a cake because they like some other dessert better. For my husband we always make a cheesecake. But for my two little ones who still want to blow out the candles we just make a simple cake and they love it as much as the store bought cakes. On special occasions we will still splurge for the store bought - like my daughters graduation or baptisms. I guess when we have parties for more then the normal amount of people then we get a store bought cake.

i would make one for my kids.It is usually kids who request for sweets like cakes.
