when eating in restaurants...

hi people! when eating in restaurants, do you bring home leftover foods? do you ask the waiter to pack it? are you not ashamed to take our a doggy bag? Honestly, i don't like people who leave much of the food that they ordered in restaurants. of course that is their choice, i mean they can do what they want, because that is their money, but i don't have a good opinion about them, even if i don't know them. i mean, they can have them packed and brought home to their dog or given to beggars on the streets, if they really didn't want recycled food or if they didn't really like the food. usually, beggars are not choosy. i believe it is not just practical to leave sometimes barely touched food, especially that prices are so high now and many people are starving. i mean, even if i eat in a fancy restaurant, i would have the waiter pack it. i can give it to others who are in need. i think that is the best way to treat leftovers, if one doesn't like eating leftovers. what do you think of this? all kinds of reactions welcome. good day all and God bless you!

i dont see anything wrong with bringing your leftover food at home. you paid for it and the waiters will just throw it out if you dont. in fact, in most restaurants, like Olive Garden, Ruby Tuesdays, Red Robin etc, etc after you're done eating, they'll ask you if you want a box for your leftover ( so you can pack your own food ).

The information you furnished about offering of a box in need, is a good feature. we don't have such option in India.

If there is left over food I always take it home. It is only going to be thrown out and I don't like to waste food. It can be used for another meal or snack. Food is too expensive to be thrown out especially restaurant food. It's bad enough that we pay such high prices in the grocery stores. I don't get to eat out that often so when I do it's a treat and I want to enjoy every last bit of it. My boyfriend works in a college kitchen and tells me that they won't let the kitchen staff take home the left over food, that they throw the food out. He said the first few days that he worked there he was so upset to see all the food that was wasted. Perfectly good food, some wrapped food, untouched just thrown out. We are trying find out who made this decision to do this and why. He works there so he can't make waves but I need to know because there are just too many homeless and hungry people in the County where I live to ignore this.

Hi and God bless you too,yes well we wil always ask for the doggy bag, there is always far more on the plate than we care to eat,yes there are maybe many who can finish a great plateful ,but this does not include us.So we will ask the waiter, and he will bring us a plastic bag ,we put the left over goodies in it,and the little dog loves the suprise he gets.

I alway's take a doogy bag if i cant eat all my food at a resteraunt.I'm not ashamed at all.I paid my money for my food so i have the right to do whatever i feel. Also, the food alway's tastes better later anyway.I let the waiter pack it for me because I'm giving them a decent tip anyhow.

i will definitely pack it with me and take it home... especially if there is still a lot... i don't believe in throwing away food and i also have a low opinion on the people who do that in the restaurant... even if you are a rich person, you don't have to throw away your money like that... there are still many other ways you can do to recycle the left-over food... take care and have a nice day...

Hi spoiled, I am like you..It breaks my heart to see plenty of leftovers and thinking millions of people don't have the chance to have 3 meals in a day.. In my case, I always take it out, I don't leave food in the restaurant and I always eat leftovers.. I hope really everyone will see the significance of saving food and imagine other people who have nothing to eat!

Hello spoiled311, I only order enough for all but if there is still a leftover, I will ask the waiter to pack the food. At least, I can heat the food and eat it later. I don't like to waste food just like that especially when the time like this. We should appreciate whatever we have and never forget the needy ones. My husband complains a lot whenever he sees others who don't finish up their food and just leave it like that.

When my mom worked at a deli in a grocery store they were required by law(due to the overly strict health guidelines)at the end of the day to throw all the food they cooked away. It was a big time waste as they threw alot of food away. It could at least be donated to charity.

I would always bring home my leftovers...that is if I do have leftoevers. haha... It's a waste to just leave them. Some people act classy or refine thinking that if they don't bring them home they belong to the higher class. But I observed that in fact those who tend to bring home their leftovers have more money than those who don't.

I agree with you. If we are eating at restaurant, I think we either finish off the food or we take away the leftover. Of course this is provided the leftover still in good appearance. I seldom do this anyway, because I would rather finish off my food on the spot. I am a easily feel full person,so usually I won't order a lot for myself. I will always make sure I can finish the food which I have ordered. It's really a waste if we leave the food at restaurant.

I didn't when I was single. I would eat all I ordered even I was full because I don't like waste and I don't want carry them home. But my wife have changed me a lot. She will carry dishes home if we can't eat them up when we have already been full in restaurant.

We always bring our leftovers home. Now granted...alot of them get forgotten and then trashed but still. It's a waste of money if you just leave it on the table.

In this area,I don't think people begging on the streets would be too grateful for a bag of leftovers,no matter how appetising..the Majority of those that I've seen don't appear to be underfed by any means,I see most of them are out there looking for your cash! Also,do you at out often enough that you'd usually be walking home with a Baggie to have with You to give to someone begging?

I almost always bring leftovers home. Most of the time the kids will have leftovers and I do about half the time. The only time I do not bring home leftovers is when I will not be going home for a few hours after a meal or if there are only a few bites left.

I usually bring my unfinished food home with me. If i don't end up eating it my dogs will. lol. Sometimes my fiance will take it for lunch the next day. I mean why waste the food? I don't care whether its a fancy restuarant or what...I paid for it right, so i'm taking it with me. They have no use for it. I think that its better to take it home.

Well times are hard nowadays and having your extra food from a restaurant. I agree with you that instead of leaving the food behind it would be better if they give it to someone who is hungry rather than letting it be thrown away. That's why I really hate people who don't finish their food.

To be honestly, as a student,i don't eat out very often, but sometimes, when someone celebrates his or her birthday, we will eat out of our campus, the dishes ordered are enough to eat, however, most of will be finished in the end, so i think, even if you have lots of money, you should not waste it, and there are so many way you can use your money to help the people in difficult. Hope everybody can develope such a good habit.

When i go out to eat I always ask for a doggy bag. I am not ashamed i paid for my meal. Usually im bringing home my girls food. Then i give it to the girls the next day in their lunch, chicken strips and french fries. When i worked at olive garden most people would take home their food. Especially the salad which i would always bring the last salad with out dressing so that it would not be soggy. The servers at olive garden are trained to ask everyone if they would like a box for any left overs & then pack the left overs for the guests
