yamada tarou monogatari - the cast of the show Yamada Tarou Monogatari (the story of Yamada Tarou)

do you cry over drama scene in a foreign movie you are watching even if the film/show is in a foreign language and you are just reading the subtitles? i watch a lot Japanese, Korean and Taiwanese tv series and movies and even though they are all in a foreign language i can't understand, even if i'm just reading the subtitles below the screen, i still get moved at every dramatic scenes and if it is really good, i would be crying to the point that not only my eyes are crying but also my nose. and i have just been crying an hour ago over the last episode of Yamada Tarou Monogatari which is a story about a guy, Yamada Tarou, who looks like a prince, always on top of the class, moves very elegantly but in truth, he is poor. he stands as the breadwinner for his family, he has 5 little siblings, a weak mother couldn't even cook, and his father is always away living his life painting anything he'd see. Tarou does everything, the household chores, part-time jobs, taking care of the needs of his siblings and his mother, tending to their little garden, but still manages to stay on top of his class. the series is not strictly a drama series, it is actually a comedy infused with some drama. i just got so touched with the love within Tarou's family that's why i couldn't stop my tears. so do you cry over a foreign film even if you're just reading what they are saying in the subtitles? does reading the subtitles hamper you from connecting to the emotions the film/series want to convey?

i thought i was the only one whose always emotional when watching drama movies or just telenovelas. i remember when i was watching the movie a walk to remember, when the part where the leading lady is dying, i started crying and became emotional until the movie ended.

The drama series sounds familiar, i think i watched it b4.. haha =D IS there a taiwanese version of it starring F4?? hehe =D IF it's not, then i din watched it b4 ^_^ I'm a very sentimental and soft guy inside of me.. I do get emotional when i watch touching scenes and moments, i will cry and often it's uncontrollable.. hehe ^_^ ANd so whenever i sense that i gonna cry, i will start to distract myself form the moment, though i will miss that touching scene.. However, after some time, i will search for that particular dvd and i will watch it again at home, and allow myself to cry again over that scene.. lol =D Funny right?? hehe

10 Promises to my Dog - 10 promises to my dog - japanese movie
Totally. I am a crybaby. I can even cry while watching anime. I remember crying while watching certain episodes of Tsubasa Chronicles, Bleach and a few more. My most recent Japanese movie is, 10 promises to my Dog. I cried almost throughout the movie. It is so touching and the dog is so cute. I find some Japanese and Korean movies very touching. Some examples are, The Way Home (Korean), Hearty Paws (Korean), One Liter of Tears (Japanese) and etc.

yeah. i learned that its just new. i searched for it in the internet. i thought it's already available online. like in mysoju or wherever streaming sites. i got disappointed when i learned that its just new and it would probably take a long time before a subtitled version would come up.

The doggy movie is quite new. It was only recently shown in Singapore cinemas. I do not know if it's out in DVDs yet. Maybe it's on out in RAW version. Recently, I finally got hold of the anime X TV (Clamp). I finished watching last night and I was crying almost throughout the second half of the anime.

I am also a cry baby. Nice films, tv shows, funny or drama, i usually cried. Even novels or comics magazine that gives a nice story I easily cried. As if I am a party to the story. But after crying, nice feeling right.

Hello secretbear, I do. Even though I don't understand the language, it can sometimes make me cry and end up with a red nose! My husband always tease me for being too emotional, but what else I can say.... I am emotional! I watch Korean, Japanese and other dramas/movies too *smiles* I think we don't need to understand the language to understand the plot of the story. As long as there is a subtitle to help us understand the story, it is more than enough!

i know that one. its "Kaytagal Kitang Hinintay" (i've waited long for you). Jericho Rosales is a good actor and he really can cry. i admire him too. so you watch Filipino dramas! that made me proud. but i love Korean and Japanese dramas more. maybe because i'm already tired of the dramas in my own local language. ^__^;; and i want something different.

Hello secretbear, It has been a long time since I have time to spend in front of the TV *smiles* But, I remember watching a few Filipino dramas such as Kay Tagal Kay.... (can't remember the other word *smiles*) Hey, I like Jericho.... *smiles* I don't understand at all what they're talking but like you said, as long as there's a subtitle, everything just perfect to make me 'emotional' *laughs* I remember in that drama, how I hate this girl, Katrina who acted so stupidly towards her ex-sister boyfriend. I even rushed home just to make sure I managed to see the next episode. Not even once, I missed the drama *laughs* I love Korean dramas the most as one thing for sure - the hero can cry, cry and cry so much that I feel pity for him and cry with him too!

secretbear, you are a mess with yourself, LOL! Of course I cry, laugh, get angry--the who gammet! You know I work at a hotel which is Indian owned, right? We are allowed to watch tv and I love to watch the international channels. I've really gotten into Indian movies, dancing and singing included. I use to live in South Korea and still love Korean tv; watch it every chance I get. My kids love Japanese tv, mostly the cartoons and action movies. I love most anything in french no matter what country. I even watch spanish speaking programs. International tv is fresh and fun and I love it, Ditto!

I really do cry in the drama episode of any movie I watch whether it is a local movie or a foreign one. I am easily carried by my emotion when somebody cries on the movie I will also cry with him/her. I don't know I am like that. Some of my friends said, why cry? it is just a movie? it's not real?? but I internalize the story which made me feel what the character is portraying.

Yes. I cry over films or movies or shows, no matter in what language they are. There are always things within us which are the same. This is why people in different countries and cultures can appreciate the same thing or the same quality of things. Korean films and tv series are very popular in our countries these years. They show real life which are so close to us and which can startle us just as life can do. For some time, I love to watch them. But now I watch little since I found that many films and tv series follow the same story-telling way. However, I do love Japanese animation films. The figures in there are very cute and the stories are also moving.

hi alice! i'm glad to see you here in this discussion. Korean films and tv series are really popular here in our country too! three channels air a lot of Korean tv series and a little of Japanese dramas. there are many fans here of Korean movies and tv series. i can tell by the scattered pirated dvds of Korean movies and series. ^__^;;

You know, secretbear, I do, and it is rather embarrassing as my sweet hubby is such a stoic and he laughs aloud at my sniveling, but there are just some people who cry at movies and some who don't and I have used up whole boxes of tissues on some of the classics. Subtitles do not at all hinder me from connecting with the emotions, rather I would say they help me connect and when I watch programs on my multimedia computer the captions are always on. That makes it possible for me to see my film and his at the same time without either of us being annoyed. Oddly, closed captioning annoys hubby unless the film is in a language he does not know.

hi drannhh. i agree. subtitles really helps a lot in understanding the whole story and not missing one word or sentence. sometimes when i watch a movie or a series in English, and it has subtitles, even if i don't need the subtitles since i understand English, the subtitles still help because it makes you understand each character and the whole story and how the conversation progresses. we can't always rely to our ears to capture everything right?

I do. I'm a sentimental fool and my son oftentimes teased me when he sees me crying over a soap opera (smiles). I got carried away even if I know it's just a story written by a scriptwriter, because I know behind these stories are even more amazing true stories from which the writer derived his stories.
