Well here in Minnesota it has been very hot plus very dry for the past 2 months. I have been watering all my gardens inclusing the apple ytrees daily as we have had very little rain this summer. But with all this heat and sunshine my apples are really starting to turn red fast now. They may be ready sooner than I expected. Maybe by a month. But we shall see. Do you get excited when your fruits and or veggies start to ripen? Can you not wait till they are ready? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

We've had record rainfall here in southern Ontario, so, watering has not been an issue. In fact the farmers are complaining that they can't harvest their crops because the fields are under too much water. I don't have any fruit on my property, but, I love it when the local stuff is ready.

We have been WAY bwehind in rain for a couple months now. Woke up this morning to a light but steady rain for a couple hours. That saves me from watering today. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I had a strawberry patch and some raspberries. I just finished picking the first bunch of strawberries, and now the second is coming around, and it rained thundershowered today, they are not ripe enough yet, but I am waiting until they get red enough to pick. I freeze them to have them on yogurt or I make freezer jam. I cannot wait until I can pick them. They are so delicious.

My strawberr are done for the year. I got a lot this year. The plants are sending out a lot of shoots as well for next year. My red rasberries I pruned to the ground last fall to promote their spreading. It worked as I now have 4 times as many bushes as last fall. I did get maybe a couple pints this year though. I've always been told that apples need a cold snap to become sweet - what do I know - I live in Texas where apples barely grow.

They ripen in early fall most times. Late September or early October usually. Don't know about a cold snap. But they are reddening nicely. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Yes I get excited when I start pickin from the garden. Its always nice to grow your own food. Its one of natures great miracles, a tiny seed goes in he ground, a plant grows and soon we have wonderful delicious food to eat. The only thing I don't like is when we start harvesting from the garden we know that soon it will be fall and then winter. Enjoy the harvest, you have earned it.

I get real excited about everything I grow. I just bought some new seeds today! I also ordered the cinder blocks (44 of them) to do one of the raised beds in the backyard (152.00!).

Yes you did! Now that I know the complete cost including tax and delivery (by the way Home Depot raised the cost of delivery from $69 to $79 on Monday the day after I called and was quoted $69!) is going to be $152.00 for each bed (just the cinders) after I get it set up on Monday (when they will be delivered) I will know exactly how many beds I can put in. I don't have a huge backyard but it isn't tiny either. I am hoping to get in atleast 3 beds and then have room enough to do 3 tire beds too. We will see on Monday. Monday will be back breaking work that is for sure but it will be worth it.

really! you have gotten our weather this year. i mean most years, we get very little rain for the month of july and it seems that almost every day this summer, we have had rain or even a thunderstor...we have had hail a couple of times and many a tree in southern ontario has been knocked down due to wild winds!

I am actually pretty glad that I did not try to grow anything this year, we have had an abysmal summer yet again. We have had lots of rain again and it has been quite cold, I would love to just have a few more days of lovely weather, if it gets any colder I will be having to have the heating on again. With all the rain that we have had it is getting quite cold and damp.

Here in Oklahoma its been really dry for the past couple months too, but the last few days we've had some rain, its been a relief, everything was getting dry. We have an apple tree that has alot of apples on it, I think this year we are going to have some apples, usually they don't get ripe or the worms get to them, but this time, they are looking good. I'll be making that apple cobbler, my husband likes homemade apple butter, if I can find a recipe for it, I might try to make some for him, maybe..lol.

unfortunately i have no property to grow veggies. when i lived in california, in a tiny apartment, i had my porch filled with container veggies and they did remarkably well. even zuccini ! do you freeze these fruits whole? or make pies and thaw and bake? one house i lived in california, i had a back yard with pre-planted lemons and peaches. every night desert was ice cream with real peaches on top. soooo good ! the lemons went into real lemonade begun from scratch. nothing has ever tasted so good as home grown either.

Yes I have to admit that I get very excited when the fruits of my labour or should I say my mum's labour come to fruit! I am straight out there picking them, I don't even wash them because I know they are 100% organic and fresh and tasty. I can't wait to eat them and don't bother to cook them, I find fruit and vegetables far more tastier eaten raw than cooked. We have been lucky because we haven't had much sun here of late but enough rain to make the produce swell.

I am a very impatient person when it comes to things like that. I do get excited and start getting anxious when it is just about time to pick. I wish I had an apple tree. I am thinking about getting an apple and an organge tree for next year.

Yes, there is nothing better than eating your own home-grown fruits and vegetables! I'm hoping to put in a small garden when we finally get moved to the new (old) place..hehe. I'll have lots of room but the ground has a lot of clay. I may be doing some container gardening.

Reading your discussions I wish I had my own garden. But living in a crowded city we cannot even think of seeing fruits on a tree. But when I visit the nearby villages and get a chance to eat fruits from the trees I do not miss the opportunity. And then feel disappointed if they are not ripe enough to be eaten.
