this is one of those rare days! i had the urge to clean our small garden this morning. ^__^;; after doing my laundry and as i was hanging my clothes, i noticed that the weeds are all over and some of the plants are growing too much! and then, a few hours before, my mother was bugging me about not having enough sunlight so i thought i'd tend to our garden while getting some sun. hitting two birds with one stone! but i was really glad i finally did it. i have been wanting to clean our garden but i just didn't have the strong urge to do it. i was glad i had that urge today because our garden looks more nicely now.

Garden?? I dun have a garden because my house is too small.. haha =D IN my singapore, very seldom one gets to see a garden unless those ple living in private houses.. If not, most of our flats are built upwards and not side ways, thus we dun have a back yard for our own use ^_^ BUt for ple who wanna keep or grow plants, we are allowed to do so along our common corridor, and it has to be neat so that it wun cause disturbance to the neighbours ^_^

hi kun! i can imagine as much since i know you live in the city. city people can only grow plants in pots so they don't have to worry about weeds or anything.

that's why it is hotter in the city than in the province. there are less trees and plants.

Having a garden is nice. You take care of the plants especially to the flowering plants. I tend to my garden twice a day...morning and late in the afternoon. I make sure that I water the plants. I do the cleaning by taking out dry leaves, loosen the soil and even talk to my plants :)

If you love gardening, I think you should give time to tend to it. I understand busy women like you. You can spend maybe an hour or two during the weekends in your garden...making it look pretty. And if you don't mind, send me a picture of your garden. :)

I try to work in my gardens (I am building a raised ed garden in the backyard and I have container gardens and an aerogarden and seeds started indoors also)daily. I love my gardens and love working with seeds and dirt. Today we are laying the cinders for the first bed in the backyard, then I am transplanting two tomato plants to containers. I went out to check my radishes and have little radish babies coming up. I have beans coming up indoors and I need to transplant two zucchini plants and 4 watermellon plants.

Garden? GARDEN? What's a garden? Out here in the wilds of Wyoming, it's hard to have a garden. Besides, I am not much of an outdoorsy type. I always say that if I had a lawn larger than a postage stamp, it's TOO BIG! Gardens are also part of that genre. They're just TOO MUCH WORK.

For the last 20 days, I took a vacation and went to my parent's house, in the country side. My main activity was tending to the garden, and considering that it's a very dry year (again ) I had a lot of watering to do, not to mention the weeds that were growing all over the place... I like tending to my garden, I feel good among the plants, it calms me down...

I am out tending to my garden almost everyday.I do not go out and work in the garden only when it rains.Once the rain stops then i am out until it becomes dark.I feel i can get my garden to look neat only if i keep working on it everyday.Either I am weeding watering or putting out some cuttings or I will be re-arranging some plants.I always want my garden to neat and very colorful.In the mornings I finish off my house work and set out into the garden.I love to spend time doing gardening.It keeps me so occupied that I never feel lonely nor do i crave for company.I can't think of living in a house without a garden.Enjoy the sunshine as well as your gardening.

I don't have a luck on gardening my friend, i will do the laundry instead haha. Or cleaning the house. i remember when I was in grade school, we are forced to plant , we are all given a seed of vegetable. i plant my seed, but forgot to take care of it by watering it everyday so the result, it did not grow. I don't have a magic hands,but yes I can clean houses.or is that related?
@secretbear (19448)

well i guess they are related since they are both cleaning. ^__~ when i was in high school we were also told to plant mongo. i was able to grow them and i thought of planting more in our backyard. they were growing nicely only one day, those darn ducks of our neighbors destroyed my plant! and also my watermelons who were just starting to grow leaves. i got so mad i didn't plant anything anymore except for ornamental plants.

We don't have a big garden that run to acres or so.. but only a few square feet...I regularly maintain it.. water the plants, remove the weeds,and do pest controlling work. I perform this more of a hobby, than of an exercise.. Any how it good to see that the bugging of your mum worked.

I don't really have a garden but some landscaping that I weed about every two weeks. No matter what I do I can't seem to keep the weeds out of there. I have used the black material and everything but they poke right through it! LOL

hi jill! weeds are really persistent! as long as there's roots remaining and maybe seeds, they'll be there to grow and annoy you!

yes, tending the garden makes it look good and neat! i do tend my garden weekly, prun the trees like plantains etc. Though, it be discouraging atimes if there is no much sunlight because the garden will be moody and untidy. so it is very good to tend and tidy up the garden especially if you go there to harvest crops or vegetables to prevent snakes and some deadly reptiles that hide in the flowers.

i hate snakes and reptiles! thank goodness they don't go to our garden! only earthworms and ants and other insects. but i hate earthworms too. i just can't stand their wriggling and slimy body. ew.

My little garden is mostly in containers and a few things alongside my house, so I'm out there checking on things several times a day, just to get outside. None of it really needs any work, just watering, but I'll putter around anyway, see what might need staking, move them into the sunshine, etc.

hi Ldyjarhead! that seems like easy to manage. its nice to have a garden like that. needs only a little work. that's why i put plants on pots. my mother is the one who plants her plants directly in the soil!

i like nature and wild garden haha... well its my excuse for not doing it.. i HATE gardening, its just too much hard work and boring lol My cat likes it wild as she can hide in it.. Well in between all the showers we seem to have here, when i can get washing out, that is time maybe i will clean the garden up a little, while im outdoors, and then i will get carried away with it, and before know it couple of hours have past by.. Do make me feel better when its done, i have to admit.. Summers here have been so bad the past 2 years, we had 2 great days beginning of summer and that was it.. I only feel the urge to have nice garden if i am able to sit out in it and enjoy

hi mandy! i think we're the same in the sense that we only do gardening when we feel the urge or when we are standing there outside and you are staring at the garden and since you're out, might as well do something while out there. something like that. ^__^;;

its really an advantage if you live in the province. even so, our garden is really small. if i had the money i would buy a house with a large garden and backyard. i want to plant a lot of flowering plants in the frontyard and a lot of vegetables and fruits in the backyard.

Because we travel a lot and live in upstairs condos, the only gardens I have are containers filled with liquid nutrient solution, so there is no dirt, no weeds, or bugs, and not much tending to do. Every two weeks I add more nutrients to the water and if it is starting to look ikky, then I pour that water off and strain it to use for non-edible plants in pots out on the porch, replacing the indoor planters with fresh water and new nutrients. Some of my planters have LED lights that go on if I need to add water. Others I just look at every week or so. Sometimes the plants need to be pruned back so they don't grow too tall and spindly, but that is fun. The only drawback to all this is that unlike you I don't get any sun while tending my "garden" but, then, neither do I have to squat down or bend over.

hi drannhh! that is so interesting. this is the first time i heard of liquid nutrient solution. is that the same with liquid vitamins for babies and kids? ^__^;; anyway, it sounds like you have a lot of plants and you take care of them regularly. and yes, its fun to prune and trim plants especially if they are growing taller and taller everybody. i can cut and cut like crazy and still, they would never stop growing.

I don't have a garden but I used to. I would work in my garden every day after I got home from work. I would put on my supper and turn it down, and go outside and do some garden work. Or if the garden didn't need any work I would do some work on my flower beds or other yard work. I am now living in a house again with a yard and this year I planted some flowers but there is no room for a garden and since I am renting I can't dig up the yard and grass to have a garden. I did ask but was told no way. So I have to satisfy myself with just doing the flowers in the yard and the yard clean up. I wish I could have a garden again as I miss it very much. Not only the fruits of my labor but also the labor itself. I found it to be the best stress reliever there is. Alrighty then, talk to you later my friend, Your friend Chris

I do not tend to my garden very often, I am not much of a gardener, but also we have no grass or plants at the moment as we are in the process of having the garden done. When it is done we will be having a few plants put in and so I will tend to those, but the main clearing of the weeds in the garden is done by my hubby!

Oh my I am responding to this discussion three months late. I just could not resist this topic - grdens. Anyhow, I just want to share my passion for gardening or gardens. I I love gardens. I am a garden person i.e. i can spend almost the whole day from sunrise to sunset arranging the plants, fertilizing, pruning, re-potting, etc. I am a frustrated lanscape artist so I feel at home and a high tending gardens. I also visit garden shows and exhibits to get ideas on landscaping.
