What do you think? Is Taiwan part of China, or are they a sovereign state? Should they eb recognized as a Country by the US, or the UN? What is your opinion?

Can I ask you why it is this way? If the people of a place see themselves as sovereign, and govern themselves as such, why are they not sovereign?

Well,I guess the question is just a little bit hard to explain.Because the situation is complicated. To get more information, you can see at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One-China_policy .

Although Taiwan and China still have many difference, including the different ideas, the system etc. However, it doesn't mean that it's a separate nation. Taiwan is a part of China. It's the same in the past, present and even future. I love China

Taiwan is a part of China, not a sovereign state. There is no way to be recognized as a country, because PRC(the People's Republic of China) will never let Taiwan split absolutely from China.

I think that China is a country and Taiwan is a totally different country. If a traveler gets a visa to visit China it wouldn't let him visit Taiwan as well. I think that Taiwan should be recognized as a country by the United States of America and the United Nations. Hong Kong was given back to China by the British. The people in Taiwan are not saying they want to be part of China. I wonder what it is like in Taiwan compared to China. I think Taiwan is a small island in the South China Sea with a high population.

I lived in Taiwan for a couple of years. Taiwan has it's own separate government and president. Taiwan is not communist. They have their own currency. Even some of the language is different. Both places speak Mandarin but the Mandarin in Taiwan is a little different. I haven't been to mainland China but I know Taiwan had a lot of cultural influences from Japan. Some countries recognize Taiwan as a separate country from China.

Taiwan should be recognized as a sovereign state. As far as I can tell it is. How are they not sovereign? Do the Chinese vote in their elections or govern over them? Do the Taiwanese have a direct say in the Chinese government?
