Not all salesman are honest. Some are dishonest and would lie about their products just to make a sale. But there are other salesman who are honest.

I agree, I think for instance (in my experience) most car salesmen are a bit fraudulent with the truth (lol!), but the other day I bought a sofa and the sales guy was really very honest and suggested I go with the less expensive offer. Either he's really honest or he's doing well on commission and doesn't need the extra £100!

My answer to that is some are and some are not. Having been a salesmen in the past I can tell you it is so much easier to be honest than it is to be dishonest. Honesty may cost a sale but in the long run it will pay off. For me to tell a lie was a very difficult task because I would feel so guilty about it that I could not live with myself. So life was just easier to just be straight and upfront about things. Trying to hide things about your product is a way of lying. I was sued because my client said I had lied but when the attorney questioned his wife she had to admit I had not only told her but stressed to her about the flaw. A lot of sales or people can lie with ease (I have seen this)and get away with it but eventually it will catch up with them. I always thought about the fact that I liked being known for being a honest trustworthy person and had a lot of repeat business. Had I not been this way my career would have been short lived.

it depends on their personalities and integrity. some salesman are completely liars, the others are a little bit honest sorry just kidding. if you want to buy something, you shouldn't totally account on them to get the right information about it, its advantages and disadvantages, etc. you should get advices from a neutral expert.

Of course not, how can they be honest, if they want to make a sales.

Sometimes they are not really honest. With all the pressures that they have just to reach their sales quota they would do anything just to hit those sales, including deceiving customers. I'm not selling all are dishonest, I'm just saying that there are some who do lie, but I guess as I was saying we have to undertand that they were doing such because of the pressure to reach their sales quota.

I think most salesmen are honest, and all of them wish to be. However, the fact that their earnings are likely to be tied to the amount of sales they make create a lot of room for being economical with the truth! The dishonesty is likely to come in the persuasion aspect. How do they persuade someone to buy more than they need or a product he/she might not find really useful? Some white lies might have to come into the bargain. So I don't think any dishonesty is being malicious. I think because their efforts can make the difference between the survival and prosperity of a company, a lot rests on them and sometimes they cut corners, take risks and perhaps embellish the truth to make that crucial sale.
