Grand mals or petite mals?

How long have you had it?
I was born with it.
I was told not to have any children, but I had one beautiful daughter, despite what they told me, due to severe grand mals. The doctors thought that if I were to have kids, it would end up in my death. Ha ha ha...I proved them wrong!
It just goes to show you, that they're not always right.
Nowadays, I have managed to cut down my seizures to almost nil.
Has any of you other women out there managed to do the same?
What have you done to keep yours under control, either big seizures or small.?
What medications are you taking?

I was diagnosed with petit and grand mal seizures when I was 15 (just before my exams, totally screwed things up for me) although I suffer more petit mal these days than grand mal.
My mom also has epilepsy, and she was told not to have kids, but she has had 6 of us!

Yup, just me.
It is thought that it is possbile that one of the immunization injections I had as a child could have caused it, as well as hitting some concrete steps forehead first when I was young.

I did not have seizures ever, but my best friend of 40+ years did. She had grand mal, and I remember when she was young that sirens and flashing lights used to set them off. She took phenobarbitol almost all her life, and I don't believe she took anything else for them. Once she was on a regular schedule of her medicines she never had ones after that. How wonderful that you had a lovely daughter despite being told otherwise. I'm so glad to hear that worked out well despite their predictions! (Thought I'd add to this discussion to bring it back to the top of the pile, it's a good discussion and I'm sure lots of people missed it :-)

I had grand mals when I was a child. It started when I was 9 years old, and at first my doctor didn't know if I had epilepsy or not, but I had some test done and after a while I got the diagnosis. He put me on medication, and it worked really well. I didn't get any seizures for a very long period of time. When I was 12 my doctor thought that I didn't need the medication any longer, so I quit. In the beginning I was a nervous if the seizures would come back, but they never did. Today I am 33 and I haven't had a seizure for more than 20 years.
