Holiday weekend

Since Labor Day marks the last long weekend before school starts, what are you planning to do? Spending time with family? One last BarBQ for the entire family? Going camping anyone? Anyone going to the beach? Going out of town for fun? I will be attending a Bar B Q for my grandson's birthday. I am not in the mood for going out of town. There is just so much traffic on holiday weekends, that I just feel more comfortable staying close to home. So what are you planning for this last long weekend? Please share..

We do the same every year, we spend time eith family, grill out or have the men in the family fighting to outdo each other in B-B-Q techniques.. I believe it is time well spent staying at home with family and keeping a few of your dollars instead of giving them to the big oil execs..

Hi Donna, Nothing wrong with spending time with family. It could be very entertaining with the competition amongst the men in the family. At least you don't have to do the cooking. LOL You probably have enough with the clean-up though! LOL I agree with you on keeping a few dollars in your pocket instead of giving it to the big oil execs. They don't need any more. Any time spent with family is time well spent. Enjoy your holiday weekend with all of your family. Have fun!!

We stay home on holidays because that seems to be when all the drunks hit the road. When i was younger and my Dad would fuss when my sister and i went somewhere (that required driving)and i never understood it, now of course i have children and realize that he was trying to protect us.

Hi cjgrooms, Isn't it amazing how long it takes us to realize that our parents did lots of things because they were trying to protect us? It really comes to light when you have a family of your own. You find yourself doing and thinking of the same things your parents went through. I personally like to stay close to home for holidays. Like you stated, holidays seem to be when the drunks do come out and make things not as safe. I really worry about the grandchildren that are just starting to drive. The things that could happen while they are on the road. It is not always easy to get them to see why you have so much concern. They just seem to think we don't want them to have fun. Enjoy your holiday weekend, safe and sound at home, like me!

Hi 34 momma, A comedy club sounds like a good time happening!! It is definitely a good start! Maybe something will come up that will help you decide. Then again time with family is a good thing, especially if it is beneficial. Redoing the kids' rooms could be very beneficial for all concerned. LOL Maybe not as much fun as going someplace or doing something special. It depends on who you ask. LOL Have a good weekend, not matter what you are doing or where you happen to be!

I have two grandsons,(ages 2 and 17 is what they will be) their birthdays are this weekend. We will have a bar-b-que with lots of water things for the children to do, possibly the adults to if this heat holds up. I live in the country and thank goodness there are no water restrictions here as we are in a severe drought. Much of our time will be indoors as well as out. Have fun all!

It's true there are many people travelling so there is more traffic, and, sadly, there also tends to be more people on the road drinking and driving. As of right now I don't have any plans. I may end up staying home with my boyfriend or taking a quick drive tosee our family. Nothing extravagant. Everyone have a safe and fun holiday weekend!

Hi Bethany, So true, more drivers that do drink. I feel better just staying home. With my family about to be hit by Gustav, I can watch the news bulletins, instead. I feel they are pretty safe with their location inland. Have a nice day..

No big plans this year . Maybe have a small cook out or something . last year was a good one , and our plans just happened out of the blue . We went on my friends aunts boat and then sat on the docks all night . So, maybe something cool like that will happen again . Of course I would love to the beach but i am pretty sure it is a no go . My fiance is on his vacation so we may go to the lake for a day or too . I hope you all have wonderful plans and enjoy the day

Where did the summer go? Its already the end of August, summer flew by. I don't have any plans for labor day weekend. I don't like being out on the roads neither on holidays, too much traffic and accidents. Have a safe holiday, enjoy the BBQ with your grandson. The grandkids are so precious.

Hi polly, Summer has just gotten up and gone away without telling us it was leaving. LOL I am totally amazed at how fast summer went this year. Will we be lucky enough to have winter go by that fast? Probably not!!! I just spent this weekend with my daughter who lives out of town. We had a really good time and pretended it was the Labor day weekend. The grandkids had a blast! This weekend will be good too. A Bar-B-Q close to home with more grandkids. Gotta love'em. Have a good holiday weekend!

My husband and I will both be working. When my mom was alive I always tried to be with her, as it was near her birthday. I find I work most holidays right now.

Hi gerty, Sometimes our work schedule just doesn't allow us time off for the holidays. This year we get 5 days off. Sorry you will both be working this weekend. Maybe you can enjoy a weekend off together next weekend. Good luck to you, and enjoy what you can of this weekend.

Hi cajun, School starts here on August 27th. The kids go to school for three days and have the weekend off. Not much time to go too far from home, so better to stay close and have a Bar-B-Q, and some fun with family. Enjoy the holiday weekend, and have some fun!

I just realized yesterday that Labor Day was coming up. I don't think I'll be doing something, although if my parents go to see my ailing Papaw, I'm likely to go with them. He is at the end of his rope I think, and if I can spend some time with him and my Nana (who does her best to take care of him), I would count that as a great way to spend a weekend. They live about three hours from here so when I can go down there, I want to.

Hi ambiepam, Grandparents are so dear. I lost all of my grandparents years ago, but I still miss them. I always tried to spend as much time with them as I could. I learned so much from them while I was growing up. I think that would be a good weekend if you could get to go see them. Good luck and enjoy your weekend, and your time with them.

Normally it's our last weekend of the season to go camping, so we make it a long weekend of just relaxing, cooking out, and enjoying the campfire. Nothing as really been said so far as to what we will be doing but I'm figuring that's what it will be. If not, we'll just be staying home, cooking on the grill and just relaxing around the house.
