Do you prefer to work at a desk or somewhere else?

In school, I don't have much desk space. I pretty much only have space to put my laptop computer and my printer. Plus I can fit a few other random things on my desk but because of all of the things I have on my desk, I cannot really do any of my class work at my desk. I've been back in college for almost a week now and classes started Monday. I have several things that I need to work on but without desk space I've had to resort to other things to finish my work. Mostly I've been sitting on my bed with the books and papers in my lap. I've gotten really frustrated with that though and decided to go out and purchase a lap desk. I just did that today and haven't had a chance to use it yet but I hope it's a lot easier to use than how I have been working. So, do you prefer working at a desk or anywhere else other than a desk? Do you use a lap desk if you work at the catch or in bed?

I actually seldom worked at a desk. I was more of a "drag things some place else and work" sort of student. Of course, this was back in the days before computers. I read my books in bed, I would go to the union and work there. For whatever reason, I actually seem to do better when there's things going on around me then when I'm alone. I think I get depressed when I'm all by myself, except for reading and watching TV. And now the computer. I didn't go to the library because it was 1 - too far to trek too and 2 - too quiet.

Yeah I really don't work at desks much unless I'm in class or something of course. I've only been to the library here a handful of times because our campus is so large the library is quite a long walk. I'd rather make accomodations in my room or my apartment so I'm not having to go very far.

The union is actually on an entirely different campus. I live on one part and the other part is the Downtown part. It takes quite awhile to get there so I skip it unless I'm downtown and don't have much else to do.

Well, on 2 of the campi I went to the library was literally on the other side of the campus. On both, the Union was just a few blocks. I did better at the union at TWU than SWTSU.

My "small" computer desk...LOL - image of my computer desk
With me I HAVE to have a desk....it took me a long time to find the type of desk I knew I would need...I have a desktop computer, a printer, and a scanner. I actually got the desk months BEFORE I got any of my computer stuff last year. I just knew one of those small desks wouldn't do. When a friend had come to visit me (before I got my computer/printer/scanner) she looked at me like I was absolutely nuts for getting such a large desk...but I just knew I would need a large one--it has great compartments I can store my ink, paper, discs --shelfing areas for computer related books, my mail, everything Have a picture of it here

Lol sometimes big desks are needed! I mean if you have a desktop computer and a printer it really does take up a lot of space. Small desks just won't work.

If I wasn't able to do my work at my desk/table then I always laid accross my bed to do my homework. Good luck with that lap desk. My little sister uses two collapsable t.v. trays to do her work.

Hi high, I love to work in a desk and I always love to arrange my stuff in order before I can concentrate working! it needs for me a lot of appealing environment in my workplace before I will be motivated to work so, my husband knows that every time he will scatter anything there, it will always end up in the trash bin..SO, he is very organized now(only in our desk since we shared this time)!

I've always preferred to work at the kitchen table..that way I can spread EVERYTHING out and it's easy to find. A lap desk sounds good..especially if you're already sitting on your bed doing your work. Good luck on your schooling!

That is a good idea and is always an option. I know sometimes I have so many papers and things I need to go over that a small space just doesn't cut it. Sometimes we go to the library and use the big desks there but sometimes we don't. It's way too far to walk.

I like to eat at your desk, watching television, listening to the radio and work. . . Such a great life!
