does your house have a distinctive smell?

i asked this because i went out of the house for a while just now and when i came back, i was welcomed with the smell of cooking soup and it was the most delicious smell in the world in this kind of weather (20 degrees centigrade on the meter right now). this isn't the distinctive smell i was asking about. LOL! i just typed it because it was somehow related to the topic. anyways, our home has a distinctive smell of freshly washed clothes (i wonder why my mom, after being away for very long, always manages to smell something stinky. haha!), a smell which i have come to associate with a safe place. i have made an observation, that when you leave home, your sense of smell searches for something that reminds you of home. and we always associate the distinctive smell of our homes with a feeling of safety, security and of being most welcomed. what does your house smell of? can you describe it to us? what feelings does it invoke on your person? i want to know your answers:)

Yes there is, my mom's house. But my house I don't know if it has any. Although there are few distinctive smell that makes me feel at home or nostalgic. Those were the smell of the coffee. The smell of the grass on the morning, my I could almost picture the green fields of the university that I stayed when I smell that kind of odor. It brings back a lot of memories. The smell of ocean salt in the body. I have fond memories of the ocean. and the smell of your hometown, argh I wish it's not rainy season so we could just go there (and that finances will allow it he he)

i have a one-year old nephew who went here a few weeks ago. he was addicted to the fog. when it starts to fog u, he'll beg to be brought out and then when he's out in the open, he'll sniff the air like a rugby boy smelling his plastic full of rugby. wahahaha! kids! they're so weird most of the times.

I don't think it does at the momnent, but in the past it has smelt of babies. Old peoples houses always have the same sort of smell, musty and damp. If you walk into a house with noone in it you would be able to tell an old person lived there

Oh yes, my home has a lot of wood Mahogany and Cedar, and I use an Incense mix of sandalwood, lavender and Satia sai baba, all together smells just perfect for me. When I returned from vacations the distinctive smells is a WELCOME HOME!

I cook often so it's usually fragrant with whatever is baking in the oven..cookies, brownies, roast or some sort of casserole I've whipped up. If there's no cooking going on then it's a lovely smell of the many candles I have through out the house. My favorites are vanilla or apple cinnamon. I try to do the laundry on a daily basis so the scents are mingled in with that as well. I am addicted to my fabric softner! Lavender Vanilla. I love homes that smell comfy, cozy and warm. On a day that I'm doing massive amounts of laundry, I can walk outside and smell the lovely scent wafting about. That clean, warm lavender vanilla smell is soothing to me.

No, not really. I don't think houses should, maybe if it was a clean smell, you know, but not otherwise. Mine doesn't really smell at all for some reason, and I personally like it like that!
