On Pension day do you go right away to the bank

From the 27th to the end of the month, I see the banks lined up with all the pensioners either bringing in their pension checks into the bank to get them cashed, or going to the bank or credit union and taking out their money that was automatically deposited. Sometimes I need money, but more often I will leave it in the bank and either pay by credit card or checks. Yes even the ATm machines have a long line up on pension day. And when I need cash, I will wait until sometime after the first of the month because I do not want to stand behind a long line up, especially when I want to change the twenty dollar bills into smaller change. In fact, I will get them changed in the grocery store.
So for you pensioners, do you go right away to the bank and get it cashed or money taken or are you like me and hate queues, and either use the ATM or wait for a less crowded time?

I have automatic deposit so I never have to bother with queues/lines in fact I very seldom go to the bank. I have never not even once used an ATM machine.

I do not use ATM's either. So many of them have fees, I just do not choose to give away my money.

The way the Atm machine works it does not charge a fee if you use the one at your bank even if you are in another town. So for example, you bank at the Bank of Montreal if you are Canadian, or the First Bank of America if you are from the States, you will not be charged. But you will be if you withdraw money from the Royal Bank in Canada, or some other bank in the States.

Hubby has his Social Security directly deposited to the bank. If we need cash, we just draw extra at the store after writing a check for our purchases. He also still works so we do not just rely on that for money, and do not have to join any long lines anywhere.

I used the direct deposit, and if I need money, I will get it from the Atm, and then if I need change, since I do not like queues, I will go to the grocery store and get it changed there, unless of course, I am on the bank at a day when no one is getting their pension or disability checks cashed. It is amazing how many do not like the atms and would rather stand behind a whole lot of people. Not me, have too much to do.

I have my disability income directly deposited into my bank account, and I leave it there. I write a check for my rent, and then I use my ATM card when I need more money. I am not going to walk around all month with that much money on me. I'm not that crazy. I know that if I need it it will be in the bank waiting for me.

I usually wait a while. I have my pension on direct deposit, and it will be there, and I pay by check or use my credit card. The only time I need cash is when there is something coming up and for my tithes, since my church waits until near the end of the month to deposit all the checks at once and I do not want to be in a position of writing a check for something else, like paying off a credit card and finding I have not enough.

I hardly ever write a check or have more than $10.00 on me in cash. I also use my card a lot and do all my other bill paying and money business online.

My husband pays the bills. And he prefers to use his debit card and write a check. He does not trust on line. I have one account automatically paid by credit card and the other I will write a check and go to the store. After all, I paid for those checks and might as well use them. And we do get to go to the Mall.

When I get mine, I go straight to the bank, cash it and deposit some of it in my checking account, then I go do my grocery shopping. Thats where I see everybody on the 1st of the month is at the grocery store, the store is full of people and the checkout lines are long. You would think I would learn to go later in the evening when its not so crowded, but no I still go right in the middle of the day..lol.

I live in Winnipeg, and a lot of people came from Saskatoon where they used to shop on Wednesdays. So what they did was they all decided to shop on Tuesdays. So on Tuesday, because of all the former Saskatooners from Saskatchewan province, Tuesdays the grocery stores are all crowded.
So you cannot win. I bet when you start to shop in the evening, then most everyone will change to evenings and you will be back where you started.

I guess both of us are trend setters. I remember when I was eleven, I decided to decorate my white jacket with all sort of designs, pictures, stickers, and then everyone else started to copy me.

It really is not, but if I put it in the bank it will be there when i need it. I just hope it is not too soon. But I guess if you did not start saving when young, or even in middle age, then when you get old, you will suffer. And it also hurts if you are unable to get a good job. Then you cannot help it.

It is easier that way. I have better things to do then to wait in line. I mean I consider my mylotting and my writing better priorities then banking.
and of course there is that all important window shopping.

Well I am on social security disability, I get my check on the 3rd. of every month. I too have my check direct deposited into my bank account. I never go to the bank at all. I usually write checks for everything, I try not to keep much cash on me, I will spend it if I do. If I need money, I will go to the ATM machine.

We get our checks near the end of the month, and when I need money, I do not go on the day when everyone is, I wait until later on when there is hardly anyone there. Most of the time I use my credit card and write a check when it becomes due. I use the ATm machine, but not until I really need the money.

I have my pension direct deposited in the bank every month. This way the money is in my account and available to use exactly on the payment date and there is no need to visit the bank in person at all. I can use my check card (debit card) at the grocery store and I use online banking to pay most of my bills.
I love it...no lines, no crowds, and no chance of mail delays or thieves taking the check. I have been using this method for many years and never had a problem.

I got my Saskatoon pension and my Canada Pension when I was sixty and I had them direct deposited. Then when I got my Old Aged Security, I did the same thing. I hate queues, especially when most of the time it is because the people who are my age or older, do not know how to use an ATM machine. I can transfer money to my checking or my credit card, and I pay by credit and then when the credit card comes you, I have just one check to write or else I will transfer money to my credit card to pay for it. And the only time I take money out, is to pay for my tithes, because they do not deposit checks until the end of the month. And that is usually on the Friday before.
