In the following article, the author makes some very valid points of how the democrats contradict their polocies and beliefs sometimes in the context of the same paragraph or speech! Their hope is that mainstream America is not intelligent enough to see their double-speak for what it really is---bull$hit! The article is a good one, have a read: http://townhall.com/Columnists/MichaelMedved/2008/08/28/the_big_contradiction_from_the_Denver_dems

I just read the article, and it seems the core "contradiction" that was focused on is the availability of the american dream for the middle and lower classes. And I'll be honest, I don't see a contradiction. The politicians telling their stories focused largely on the familial support they had in pursuing their dreams, Michelle Obama specifically mentioned that her family scrimped and saved to send her and her brother to Princeton. And that's great! But what about the families that don't have it to scrimp and save? Not the middle class, but the lower classes? Or the people who grow up in families that just don't care? There are things that the government can do to assist these people; increased grants to help these kids go to college, and better educational programs in some of the cities that aren't receiving the same class of education as the suburbs. Ultimately, I don't see this as a contradiction. Opportunities are available for everybody, sure. But not everybody has the means to attain them.

Soooobored, Thanks for the comment. I agree that there should be a reasonable amount of help for people who would normally not have the means to take advantage of college or trade schools. The problem I have with the dems is that they want to portray the "way they did it" as attainable for every American but in the same breath say you can only do it if me and my party help you and that is the exception, not the rule! It may be that you have to atten community college rather than the 300,000 schools like Harvard or Yale but it is still feasible to get a college education by getting a job and working for it!

I agree with you about community college, it is a great way to get your basic credits and save some money!

Yes it is a good article... Medved nailed it as usual in pointing out the hypocrisy of the democrats. They like to use the communist playbook, trying to convince people that the government can take care of them better then they can. Of course, for this to work you also have to stir up class envy and discontent, while talking about the failed policies of the present government while completely ignoring the fact that it is the Congress who is at fault as they are the ones who appropriate the funds and spend the money. America became great because of our ability to do for ourselves and our can do attitude. It was only after the social engineering of the socialist democrats that we began to believe we needed the government in our lives for anything.
