It isn't as hard as you think. Take tomatoes as an example. They are weeds in some parts of the world. I have some cherry tomatoes in my back yard. They come back every year from the ones that fall to the ground. I do nothing to them other than eat the fruit when I am working in my back yard. I think you should research the plants that you intend to grow. Some will require different types of soil. So you might have to amend it to achieve optimum results.

Hi there apples99 Hahaha I think the phrase you are looking for is 'green fingers' . I have my own large garden and I just simply fumble my way through! I was given some courgette plants and I have now got some growing and will soon be ready to pick. I was also given some pumpkin plants that some workmen unfortunately walked on while doing my garden path and I was hoping to have some pumpkins ready for October 31st! Just plant some seeds and see what grows! Good luck!!

For roses, dig out the area twice as big as you think you will need. Place the plant in and then backfill the hole. Firm the soil but do not pack it too tight. The roots of the plant will not have to fight so hard to get established in the soil by doing this. Also the water will be able to get to the roots easier. Your plant will only be as healthy as the roots are.

I've been told I have a green thumb - I have a huge garden along with several large flower beds that have done very nicely. My problem? I love roses but they have for some reason never done very well for me - my best luck was with wild roses and believe me, nothing in the world can kill those things - including me. You may want to check into some of those :)
