Do you answer the phone?

Do you answer the phone or let the machine pick it up and then pick it up if you want to talk to that person? 80% of the time I will let the machine get it. I hate talking on the phone and hate sales calls. So I wait and see who it is first before I pick it up. Close friends and family know we screen our calls so they give us a minute to answer the phone after revealing them selves. So do you answer it or let the machine get it?

I have call display on my phone so I always look to see who it could be before I answer. Anything with a 1-800 number or 1-866 number is usually a sales call so I don't answer and I will yell out to the other family members not to answer it. Sometimes a friend of my husband calls who I really don't like, don't want to talk to. So if DH is not home I won't answer the call. We have name display and number display. For awhile my father-in-law's name stopped appearing on our phone and just the number would appear. I looked at the phone without my glasses on and almost didn't answer it. Then I saw the area code and quickly picked it up. Now, somehow, his name is appearing on the phone again. Someone may have programmed it into the phone's directory but they wouldn't have put my FIL's full name on it so not sure what happened there. But at least I know when I see that area code it is a family member.

We had caller ID once. When someone called it would display their last name, or name of the business. We kept getting calls from a person whose last name we did not recognize, my husband got all upset and jealous thinking some guy was calling me. Of which I replied that I did not know who that last name belonged to. We found out that it was a friend of ours. He lived with his girlfriend and the phone bill was under her last name, and we didn't know her last name. That caller ID caused to many headaches, we got rid of it.

I know what you mean...all the tele-marketers these days! Ugghh! Well, half the time I let the message machine do its job, but the other half I will pick it up out of curiosity, casue i mean come on, it's fun waiting to see whose going to pick up the phone! *NOTE: If you get calls from tele-marketers, I suggest being polite and saying "No thanks, i'm not interested!" Instead of "WTF!?!? STOP CALLING ME!!! AHH~~!!@#@!" Sounds better ehh? Lol, so that's my answer, half/an half.

LOL, If I do answer and there is one on the phone I will usually say, "No Thank you" and hang up. I really want to say to them, "Wouldn't you rather get a job where you don't have to bother people at dinner time."

If the caller ID shows a number I don't know, I let the machine get it or my husband. I hate talking on the phone also and will only talk to my mom and dad and other family when they call. If it someone I don't know, then they get the machine! :)

I don't have a machine on the phone at home so I have to pick it up. However I won't pick up my mobile phone unless the person is in my address book as no one else should know my number.

I never answer the phone. I have my ringer turned off in my room, but I don't answer it anywhere else either, I let the voicemail pick up. Most of the time, it is a telemarketer or something of equal importance. I don't like to talk on the phone much, and would rather do it when I am in the mood to, so I will check messages and call people back. Also, about the ringer...I had a friend tell me I should leave the ringer on, because, "what if there was an emergency?" I told him, if there is an emergency, don't call me, call 911!

i have caller id, so if i know the phone number or the name that comes through i will answer it, but if i don't recognize it i will just let it go to the machine and wait to see if it is someone i know and then pick up.

It depends on who is calling me. If I see someone is calling me and I don't know the number I won't pick it up. Sometimes though it also depends on if I feel like speaking to anyone at all. Depends on if I will answer the phone if my family is calling. I guess in a way they do understand, because I am a newly married woman. But that is like ninety percent of the time that I will not answer the phone when it is someone I know.

I don't have an answering machine so when the phone rings, it has to be picked up. But I don't answer the phone by myself. I let anybody in the house does it. And if someone's looking for me, and I don't want to talk to her/him....dah, I will let them say I'm nowhere to be found. LOL

I have caller id so if I recognise the number as being somebody I would like to talk to, then I will answer the phone otherwise I will leave it ringing. However, a lot of my friends and family have private numbers so my caller display will just show the number as private and I will have to answer it. Quite a lot of the telesales people also call from private numbers so I never know who is calling. If I pick up the phone and it happens to be a sales call or whatever, I will ask them if they could hold on for a minute. Then I gently place the receiver on the table and go off and leave them there until they decide to hang up. They don't usually phone back again and it is a great way to get rid of them.

I only answer if it is my wife or daughters. Anybody else can send me a letter, which I probably will not open.

A lot of it depends on what I am doing at the time. We have two phones as iwork from home doing telesales so if I'm on the work phone talking then I have to let the answer machine cut in and get the call.

I always answer my phone. We used to have caller ID so I'd only answer the people I wanted to talk to. That was one of the things that we had disconnected when we were looking for ways to save money. There are times when I really miss it, but I'm getting pretty good at telling the telemarketers that I'm not interested. I don;t want to be mean, but I wish they would stop when I say "no" the first time.

No they never will stop trying, that is why I usually just say "No Thank you, and hang up before they have a chance to say anything else.

Depends on which phone rings... Everybody I want to talk to have my cell. phone number, everyone else has my home phone number... It sounds weird but for some people, I don't give out my cell. phone number... I have an answering machine attatched to my landline & ringer to it, house phone, turned off... I don't even hear my house phone ring most of the times... Only reason why I have a landline is for the DSL for the internet access... Sometimes I would even set my answering machine to "outgoing message only" so that people can't even leave a message... My thought is, if you don't have my cell. phone number, you're not important enough for me to wanna hear what you have to say...
