Checking you bags outside the airport - where do they go???

I have never done this before, but on our way home last week we had the guy standing outside the airport check our bags for us. Normally, we go inside and have them do it there. This guy came right up to us though and pretty much took our bags from us. It all happened very quickly and you could tell that he was legit. But I was still warry of where our bags would end up. When we were through, he kinda yelled to us as we walked away "I'll make sure your bags are taken care of!" It was like a smart-aleck remark and I started to get worried that he was going to send our bags to CanCun instead of back home! I mean we didn't tip the guy because he was really rushing us through we barely had time to think. Once we stepped into the terminal though, I felt like I should have gone back and tipped him because he just saved us about an hour in line with our bags. I think I'm going to start using those guys from now on and making sure I have a buck or two to give to them.
Do you go inside to check your bags or do you do it outside?
OH, our bags were fine, actually they were among the first 5 or 6 bags off the plane!

It's funny that you said that. I always refused to give
the bags to the guys outside for the same reasons that
you said. One year my stepfather grabbed my bag and
said he was going to check them there and he did! I didn't
have a choice. They arrived fine! I still get on that long
line and wait. I don't know why but I do. I don't fly that
often and I am only taking a 2 1/2 hour flight from NY to
Ft. Lauderdale, Fl so I don't know what the big deal is.
I just like to make sure it goes on that stupid belt and
goes to the plane! Like I know it's going on the right plane!
One time it didn't go on the right plane coming home and I
had to wait for the next plane to come in with it! I was
really freaked out then! I hate flying and I hate airports!

I think I'm going to use the guy outside from now on. It saved us so much time. It was my first experience and I was pretty happy with it. I'm just sad that I didn't tip the guy. I'll remember that for next time though!

Well, I have not flown in ages, like maybe five years. I usually just do carry ons any more. I would consider using a Redcap, and tipping him, though, especially if I had quite a few bags.

I never liked doing carry-ons for my luggage. It was always a hassle to lug the bag around. Especially if you had a layover. Now with the 3 oz maximum for toiletries it's impossible for me to take carry-on. One 3 oz bottle of shampoo lasts me one washing!

hhhmmm.... wouldn't that be unfair to the other passengers? AFAIK, that service or fast check-in is only available to those Business or First Class passengers only.

I'm not sure what you mean... That service is available to anyone, the people are outside the airport waiting to take your bags. I just never used them before, but I was glad that I did this time - and glad my bags got home too!
