I hate keeping house, but I want to keep a clean house. I am always on the go however. I've come up with a few ideas though, ....and I thought maybe some of you would have some ideas as well. Here is what I do.... At night I list the top 5 things I need to do during the day. For example clean 1 toilet, dust my bedroom, clean off the counters in the kitchen, etc. I keep those things in mind and do them when I have a few extra minutes during the day. I rarely do all 5 at once. I also try to do 5 small things as I am leaving a room. For example, in the morning, when I get out of bed, ....I make the bed, I wipe the sink after I brush my teeth, I hang up 1 or 2 items I may not have hung up the night before, I dust a couple of bedroom dressers, and I wipe along one floor wallboards. Then I leave the room. It took me less than 5 minutes, ...but the room looks better already. Each day I do that in that room. Do you have some ideas I can use? walkgal

I like to do timed cleanings, since I am self employed and work at home, I like to spend as much time as I can working and on the computer so I will do timed cleanings, I will decide what I want to do and how long I have. Let's say I have 5 minutes and there is a sink load of dishes that need to be loaded in to the dish washer. I will turn the time on on the kitchen stove and I will challenge myself to finish the job in 5 minutes. If I don't finish I lose and the job goes unfinished, so there is a lot of incentive to finish in that 5 minutes. Or If I have a bunch of laundry to take up stairs I will give myself 10 minutes to get it all up and put in the proper place, if I go slow this could take me 30 minutes or more. So in the 10 minute challenge, I do everythig really fast, it also gets my heart rate up so I am burnging some mean calories while I am doing it as well.

Sounds like you've got off to a really good start! Something I try and do is have a few jobs that I do every day, without fail. For example, before I go to bed I always make sure that I've washed all the dishes, tidied up the main living room and straightened out all the shoes and bags in the hall. Then next morning I come down to a much cleaner kitchen and I know the main areas of my house that visitors will see - the lounge and the hall - are tidy!

Bluecat, That sounds like a good idea. If things look clean, even if we aren't caught up entirely with everything, .....I think we do not feel as overwhelmed them. What are some other things you do to keep order and stay organized? walkgal

Even though I own a dishwasher, I hand wash all of my dishes. I find that even if I only have 1 plate and 1 cup in the sink that it is just easier and faster to wash dishes as they get dirty. For this I use Dawn's foaming dish detergent.

It is good habit to clean your home or office every day. It helps in effectively controlling the mess. It is better to spend few minutes in cleaning the room daily rather than cleaning the whole house. http://www.housekeeping.in
