I went to the supermarket today and some of the staff were wearing t shirts that said.... "Beware there may be a mystery shopper about?" I wonder if there was a mystery shopper about. I had a friend who used to do mystery shopping. Any mystery shoppers here?

I did it for a very short time. Mostly shopped my local gas station/food mart. I think I made about $25 or so. It was interesting if I happened to be in that area but with gas prices the way they are, seems silly to do a shop for $5 - $7 pay. That's crazy that they were wearing the t-shirts. Mystery shops are supposed to be a "mystery" wonder if the manager or employees were trying to make a "statement".

Maybe that supermarket has been getting a lot of not so good evaluation from mystery shoppers... that is why they need to remind all employees to treat everyone as mystery shoppers... I work part time as one... and i am currently enjoying myself... but i only go to restaurant... and when i need to go to the city... i call my coordinator to ask if there are available shops there... they will reimburse the money i used... and give me a token as a form of thank you... and that works well for me...

I am a mystery shopper, or have been. I do not do much of it right now. In the grocery store, they may also have signs that say "Have you seen Bob?" to remind them that one thing a mystery shopper will do is see if they are checking under the basket, or Bottom OF Basket (Bob) for merchandise. I think the t shirts are funny. It is true, there may be a mystery shopper about.

It must've been a fun T-shirt, just to tease the mystery shoppers, if any were around. I have never been a mystery shopper. It would be interesting, I believe; it wouldn't be as boring as regular shopping. I simply detest shopping. I have a friend too who does a bit of mystery shopping every now and then. :) Cheers and happy mylotting

Why do the staff have to wear that knd of text? Makes the staff think that mystery shoppers are bad people. I mean, it doesnt have to be said in a negative way. The management could choose a more positive approach or gimmick to motivate their staff to work hard and pleasingly not just because they're "scared" of the mystery shopper, but because they will serve their customers well.

Hey there Anne18 I am a member of a secret shoppers website but I have not accepted any assignments as yet because they are never at the right time of day or are too far for me to go but maybe something will come up one day!!

I am not a mystery shopper, but it might be an interesting job to have. It might be nice to go shopping and be paid for it, and to get to keep the stuff that I buy and test. I've heard of this before, but as yet I really don't know how to get into it when i was in Canada. I wish I'd thought of it, when I was living in Arizona.

I did my first mystery shopping back in about 1978 or 79, checking out apartment complexes. Back then, I got $25. Now you can get $40 for apartment shops, but they expect you to have a good digital camera, and in some cases, a good video camera. (I don't.) When I was a single mom with a young teen son, I did mystery shopping for 3 area restaurants. Once even for a very expensive restaurant. I did some retail shops and movie theater shops as well. My son loved them all, because he was able to go with me for free meals and movies. Now, there are so many companies doing this and so many people who want to be mystery shoppers, that it doesn't pay as well. Many now merely reimburse you for your meal, rather than reimbursing for the meal and giving you a payment. When my son was young, I could get the meal and maybe $12-15 on top of that. No so anymore. There's a certification company where one can get certified and get even better shops - like on cruise ships and at fancy hotels. If anyone's interested, PM me and I'll try to find that link.

Hi I remember registering on a few sites to become a mystery shopper... that is as far as it got - I never heard from any of them! Apparently you have to wait until someone in your area wants a job done ... Guess I just wasn't in a very popular area. Violetdreams
