I can name a few. How 'bout you? And why are they deadly? Okay, this was just a reminder to me when I saw a preview for the movie, "Seven." Remember that one with Brad Pitt? I actually saw it in a theater in Holland which was an experience in of itself. Weird! Anyhow, do you know the seven and where in the Bible can we find them?

Wow you had me searching on this one and the only answer I came up with is the '7 Deadly Sins' like someone else already said are not not the bible. Further research and it seems these are: lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride. This was from the early Catholic church (which I know next to nothing about) but also coorisponds with the 7 Holy Virtues of:chastity, temperance, charity, diligence, patience, kindness, and humility
It's interesting to me that they are rather close to the 'Fruit of the Spirit':
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:19-23) The virtues that is, not the sins.
Just a shot in the dark here but as we are talking about several different languages being translated into English possibly although I don't believe they are 'deadly' as far as the physical body goes these sins would/could be deadly to the soul or Spirit.
I found this scripture while not exact but close to the 'sin' list
Proverbs 6
16 There are six things the LORD hates,
seven that are detestable to him:
17 haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that shed innocent blood,
18 a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that are quick to rush into evil,
19 a false witness who pours out lies
and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.
Again, translations can often change the surface meanings.

That's awesome, my friend. Yes, the "7 Deadly Sins" was from the early Catholic Church doctrine. I'm not Catholic either. Thanks for the additional research. Too awesome beyond words. Honestly, I love questions that make me search deeper into the Bible. I didn't think of checking Proverbs -- very interesting! Thanks again, have a terrific weekend.

Oh me too - whenever I come across something that drives me crazy until I dig into the scriptures I know God is saying, "Faith you need to spend some time with ME" and it works. Just that little time I spent looking for the answer for this myLot discussion God rewarded me - maybe small rewards but rewards non the less and I know they came from Him.

I like the tie in with Fruit of the Spirit, and with Proverbs. I did a little looking on Wikipedia. The early Catholic church divided sin two ways. Minor sins, also called venial sins, which could be atoned for with any of the sacraments. (not sure of all of them, new search later) Deadly sins, are also called Cardinal sins or Mortal sins, because not only are they wrong, they also threaten to destroy the life of grace. They can only be atoned for by confession and by true contrition on the part of the sinner.

I know the seven deadly sins by heart as I had to learn them when I was very young for my first communion. They are as follows: Pride, covetious, lust, anger, gluttony, envy and sloth. I'm afraid I don't know where in the Bible they can be found. If you know, you can post it here so that I will know just in case anybody ever asks me.

i don't remember them all. i was raised catholic i used to think religion is all that matters but many years ago something happened that changed my view. God is all that matters, not religion. i remember greed and pride if not mistaken. they are usually called cardinal sins, pretty much big bad sins not minor ones. i remember there is another sin that is unforgiven, kind of the act of insulting Christ and His body the holy sacrament which is considered blasphemous act against God Himself as prima causa. i read this in the catechism, from sunday school, don't remember where in the bible i havent read bible for a long long time

I don't think these are mentioned in the Bible . . . or at least are not called deadly sins. And you are right, littleMel, God is all that matters not religion. As a matter of fact "religion" could bring you further away from the Lord. I hope you start reading the Bible again. Psalms is always an awesome place to start.
