well i'm sorry to say there is nothing that can be done. at least the part about not getting it. once it starts, painkillers are the only things that can ease the pain. things to watch out for will be triggers. try to observe what sets off a migraine attack and avoid them at all cost. i too have migraine attacks due to certain triggers. i do my utmost best to avoid them. if i still get one, i'll pop two painkillers and lie down in a quiet, dark place to try and sleep it away. cheers ;p

Hey applefreak. Ya i understand. But one of the biggest triggers for her is the computer and i cant remove that. She works for an IT comapany and there computer is the only medium for work. Ya another trigger is the loud noise. People screaming and the loud noise of the phone ringing is a true set off trigger for her. She hates it but is so helpless. I wish i could help her.

does she has a screen protector for her computer. it might help in cutting glare from the screen. it's those that is suppose to cut away UV rays from the screen. alternatively, get her to reduce the brightness of her screen. lastly, increase the font size so that she don't have to squint. as for loud noise, invest in a good pair of ear plugs. if she is worried about missing a call, get a phone with blinking indication. cheers ;p

Hi Friend, There is no direct cure for Migraine. Tablets like Migranil etc. are available but these provide temporary relief at best. Migraine always comes back. I have found two ways of reducing the occurrence of migrane - One is to have a good 8 hours sleep and another is to have a syrupy sweet in the morning. Both these helps in reducing the occurrence of migraine. Also not looking at flashing lights helps as it is another trigger for migraine. Cheers! Ram

Hi Ram thanks for the help and suggestion. Ya i agree that she does not get good sleep. One problem is she is in an IT field and all the time the computer is in front of her eyes. Thats indeed a trigger and she is really in pain. I really dont know how to remove this trigger from her life.

Ha! that put's her in the same bracket as me. The following things would help her though: 1) Ask her to blink her eyes regularly when seeing the monitor. Though this sounds silly, people really forget to blink their eyes when sitting in front of a TV or a monitor. This deprives the eyes of the moisture required and thus increases the possibility of migraine. 2) Every hour or so, ask her to go to the rest room and rinse her eyes. She can as well just was the face. 3) Ask her to ensure that there is no light being reflected off her screen as this also causes undue stress on the eyes. Cheers! Ram

She may have a mold problem. Mold can cause severe migraines. If it is in the walls of her house she may not know it is there. Unfortunately, there is not much one can do about that except move. Another possibility is that she could be subluxated in the upper cervical area which cuts off blood flow to the brain and causes migraines. To fix that she would need to see a chiropractor who can deliver an upper cervical adjustment.

Thanks runner. I AM NOT TO SURE ON THAT ACTUALLY. bUT LET ME SEE. I shall ask her to do a couple of excersises that could improove blood circulation to the brain and also just have a visit to the doctor.

we are the same.. at times that i dont and cannot take it anymore, i would take in pain reliever like mefenamic acid.. it does ease.. but i tried not using it anymore.. but it was the most resort i could ever have... i would sleep also hoping that it would subside then take a bath because some said that it was because of heat...try it..

I'm really not sure with the cure, but as what I've heard, she needs a place where everything is quiet, the noisier the place, the more she will suffer, she needs caffeine as well. I know some people thinks that caffeine is really bad, but, a doctor once told me that caffeine will help you from migraine. Well, a shot is worth a try. Try drinking milk too.

hey hollowheart, has your gf taken some painkillers. Ask her to fill her stomach first, eat painkillers and bring it to sleep. If it is still happening when she wakes up then I would advise to go see the doctors. Hope she will get well soon. :)
