Well it is a strange question I must admit, but I had to answer it! I always walk with my left leg first, which is strange as I am right handed but I do use my left hand a lot over my right.

I always walked with my right led and my left leg would just follow on which way my right leg would go and I think it is a normal way if the person is walking.

Quite interesting post!!I think, it is the right leg which takes the first step, when we start walking. I never seriously noticed this thing but when you raised this question, I practically did it and then posted the answer........LOL!

Yeah, actually Ive wondered about that even when I was a kid so Ive been able to kinda 'observe' myself just so I could get definitive results.LOL! So to answer your question, my right leg comes first as well. Its sort of in a way the 'leading' foot/leg and the left leg is just for support or a follow through.^_^ When you think about it, even when my actions are predominantly on the right side first, it would be the left brain working for most of the time right?LOL. Just giving food for thought.

You will start out with your dominant foot. For most people, they are either 'right-side dominant' or 'left-side dominent'. If you are right-side dominant, you are right handed, right footed and right eyed. The same is true for left-handed people. Yes, there really is a test for this! Problems arise when you have 'crossed-dominance'. I am left-handed, left-footed and left-eyed. My sister, however, was left-handed, RIGHT-footed and left-eyed. She was dyslexic. Cross-dominance leads to dyslexia. The brain is mixed up. If you take a ball and throw it at someone, telling them to "catch the ball with one hand" they will automatically catch it in their dominant hand. Likewise, tell them to kick it with one foot and they will kick it with their dominant foot. Take a piece of paper and punch a small hole in the middle of it. Hand it to the other person and tell them to hold it out at arm's length and focus on an object sitting on a desk or something through the hole, then bring the paper up to their eye, keeping that object in sight through the hole. They will automatically bring it up to their dominant eye. Sorry, I got a bit long-winded, but your post brought up some old memories! My sister and I were both tested up one side and down the other at Johns Hopkins Hospital

Dang, computer glitch just happened. Let me continue... at Johns Hopkins Hospital when my father was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy. That's how I found out about this dominance thing. Sorry this was in two parts, but as I was typing, I got interrupted by a mouse that climbed up on my desk and peeked at me from behind my monitor! I freaked! LOL Anyway, I came back to this conversation after sicking my cat on the mouse, and it just went to the submit tag page before I was ready for it.

I don't really think about it... Many times when I jump long I beat on my left foot, although I am right-handed (...or right-legged too, if you will ). Again, when serving in volleyball with my right hand (which is the first step in that moment of the game), I step on my left foot, such as to rise my right hand as high as possible.

This discussion reminds me of an old story I heard years ago: There once was a frog who hopped up to a centipede with the idea that he might get an easy meal. He asked the centipede a very interesting question. "Oh mister centipede, I've always wondered how you, with all your many legs, are able to walk. Tell me, do you move all your legs on the right at the same time, followed by all your left legs? Or do you move them alternately one at a time, from side to side? Do you start with your rear legs and work forward, or do you start with your front legs and work to the rear?" At those questions, the centipede began to examine his method of walking. "Let's see now, how do I do that?" And after several aborted attempts, he was unable to remember how he moved his legs. The frog was right, he did get an easy meal. The moral to this story is: Don't think too much about what comes naturally; you could be diverted just enough that your enemies will gobble you up.

Most of the time, i will walk with my right leg 1st because it's my master leg.. haha =D But when it comes to climbing of stairs, my left leg will always take the 1st step.. hehe ^_^ But when it comes to marching in the army, it's a must to start from the left leg and i dunno why.. Most ple whom are not used to it, often caused the whole platoon to be punished.. lol

Hello! Somewhere I had read during my college career that ladies start walking first with their right leg and gents with their left legs. That is why the parading commands starts with LEFT,RIGHT,LEFT,RIGHT.(In those days the ladies were not allowed to join the police service.)In our society when the daughter in law comes to our house enter the main door putting her right leg first. So it is evident that ladies start walking with their right leg first.thanx.

Good question and discussion. I never notice which first leg I use to walk. But today I see that I always use my left foot first. Maybe we always think that everything using "right" is good. Like the meaning or right = "correct".

My dominant side is my right side. I do lead with my right leg generally. I seem to have more hair on the right side of my head. Also, however, if I have problems with something, it tends to be on the right. Like headaches on the right side. I get a sore right shoulder (using the computer mouse, right handed)

Doesn't it have to do with being right handed or left handed? I am right handed. And I guess all right handed people put their right leg first when they walk. :) Cheers and happy mylotting
