This was being asked on the radio station my husband listens too and there were several answers but the one that stuck with him was this.... "I have dog food fit for human consumption!" Can you imagine out of all the answers that one could think of this has to be the funniest.... Another one said, "Do can tomatoes count?" How about you..Do you have 3 days supply of food and water in case of emergencies? I know I don't.... This had to do with the hurricanes coming to Texas...

having lived in san francisco, and always, always waiting for the BIG ONE, i find i did this survival when i lived there. now, here in PA, there is little to fear. i probably have enough canned goods and water, or pop for 3 days. i just hope i can find my can opener though ! can you imagine? all that food and no can opener in sight ?

Hi Mommasam... I also live in Pennsylvania and there aren't any worries here....I probably do have enough food for 3 days but no water stored up...and that is probably more important than food.... That would be so funny and not funny at the same time....LOL

As I hit submit on my other comment I realized that the way it was written it sounded like I was going to buy cat food for me. LOL. My three cats would not want to share. I buy the cat food for them.

Hello Feona1962, I always stock up my food supplies for a month. As for the wet market stuff, I buy for a fortnight use. I think I still can survive eating nice meals for three days if something happens... By the way, my sister and I have a weird habit. No one will die of hunger in our house as we always have enough food for the family! Well, talking about spending too much!

Hi gr8life... I am glad that you have enough to get you through and then some...we don't have severe weather here but it is always good to have stuff just in case who knows what may happen...

Hello Feona, In fact, I am not sure whether it is a good or bad habit . But sometimes, I spend too much for the family of three and end up wasting some of the food. I feel guilty too for spending money like that but I always think of the bad situation like this - what if something like this happens and I can't get my supply?

I don't know about water, but I've got food. I've even got cat food until the end of next week and dog food beyond that (not fit for MY consumption because it has corn in it.) I think we'll be all right - for the few days we'll be affected by Ike.

I have more than a 3 day supply of food, but I do not have any water set aside right now. I did have a few gallons of water set aside, but I ended up giving it to the dogs this summer.

Our weather does not get too bad here either, but we have a well for our water, so if the power goes out we have no water because the pump cannot pump the water.

I probably need to fill some more water jugs, but so far the hurricanes do not come to Kansas, but tornadoes do. We are getting a lot of rain from the hurricanes though. Enough that they are canceling flights in Wichita tomorrow. You discussion reminds me that I need to go buy more cat food. It really is very nutritious, and would probably beat starvation.

I read your above comment...way to funny...LOL... Now after reading this response it does sound like you are buying the cat food for you...LOL...If you buy tuna then you can share.... Whenever I think of Kansas, I think of Dorothy on the "Wizard of Oz." I have never experienced any major type of disaster like hurricanes, tornadoes etc... Make sure you fill your water jugs and buy cat food...I wouldn't want you to starve....*smiles*

I do have enough food for three days but I wouldn't have enough water for three days . We don't drink our water as we don't think it is safe to drink so we get jugs of water for the house and we always have two of them but if one had no water this would not last very long especially since we use water for so many things around the house that we don't even realize half of what we use it for until we don't have any . Water is such an essential part of life that we don't think about all the ways that we would use our water but I would have enough baby wipes to last us the three days so I wouldn't have to worry about water for washing lol as I always have a full box of baby wipes with 10 refills in the box :)

I don't but I need to. It's something that I need to work on. I do have extra food up in the top of the cupboard but not any extra water. Thanks for reminding me. ~~MY OWN PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG AND BELIEVE IN YOURSELF**

Yes, I do, and no I don't live in Texas, now. I moved from Texs to PA 3 1/2 years ago, and after the snowstorm we got on Valentine's Day of '07, you bet I learned my lesson.lol I don't drive in snow, I know my limitations. I was stuck at home for a week, my s/o was stuck at work in another city. I did have groceries on hand though, so I wasn't worried about that. Had the electricity been affected, then it would have gotten a bit chilly in the house. There is also a store within walking distance if I really needed something. I also lived on the Texas coast for over 20 years, you learn to keep things on hand, like canned goods and non-perisables.

Hi palonghorn.. Then you know first hand what to do and what to have on hand... We lived in Arizona before we moved to PA 15 years ago...And we had 8 inches of snow on Halloween...My kids didn't have any winter clothes...They went trick-or-treating in jeans, tennis shoes and a sweatshirt...They thought it was cool... The next year I made sure to have all winter stuff and we really didn't get that much snow..go figure... No major weather in Arizona just Hot, hot, and more hot....*smiles*

Yes I sure do! We never know when something will come our way so it's always best to be prepared and have nothing happen than to not be prepared and something does happen. Not only that, hubby gets paid once a month so I tend to buy a months supply of groceries as well as animal supplies and if we run out of something we'll just make a list and buy it when we return to the store again.

Hi CatsandDogs... It is better to be prepared because just when your not, something happens...It is the law of nature... Buying a months worth of groceries is a good idea as well...

I feel sorry for those people, and I feel sorry for everyone who has to face this (I mean hurricanes). I am lucky, because my country does not have any hurricanes. We experience earthquakes, but they are very faint. If there is a hurricane coming to the place you live, I wish you good luck, and I hope you won't have any damages.

Yes I do even more than a 3 day supply for myself and my dogs. My supply is not because of the hurricane although it was nice to know I had everything when Hanna was threatening us. It is because I find that doing my grocery shopping only once a week keeps me to my budget and I have all necessary supplies on hand for at least a week if not longer.

I always keep plenty of food in my house. I don't have any water set aside but if a disaster was coming, that would be something I would definitly get done. Having gone through a hurricane and losing everything I had, I had to learn how to prepare really fast. Usually you have to evacuate so one of the first things I did was take pictures of my house and its contents. Then I gathered up all my important papers, then packed a cooler full of food and drinks. We packed what we could into the car and took off. Luckily we had gassed up the day before cause there were no gas stations open anywhere. Sorry, I think I got off-topic somewhat...Those responses that were given were hilarious. I don't know that I would want to eat dogfood tho....ewwww

Well, let's see. Some leftover food for tomorrow, hmm...pasta for the next day, tonnes of rice to last a whole week or more. I think food may not be a problem if you're just lookign at three day. But I don't think I have enough water supply, especially drinkable water.

I live a little away from the main city hence I always stock up. My stock supplies can easily last for 15 days. In such a calamity or any other I would not only have enough to last for 3 days but also help others who wouldn't have anything.

We here are in the normal place. We use to keep the groceries and other requirement for full month in advance except fresh vegetables and fruits etc. Even we use to keep at home some milk and these things also at least for 3-4 days because we may not be able to go out to buy on day to day basis. From your discussion I have now become aware that every body must have supply for at least for one week to meet any eventuality.
