Have you tried all the varieties? They are very different, you know? Try wild rice (very good with broccoli & cheese, btw). Try some very crispy-cooked Iranian rice! (Children there consider it a treat, I'm told). There's one variety I don't know the name for, but the Chinese use it a lot. It's light, fluffy, & sort of nutty in flavor. And there're many others! I must confess I haven't found brown rice all that tasty, but it COULD be merely that I haven't had it properly prepared. I'm still able to eat it, & eventually I'll find a real chef who knows for CERTAIN how to cook it rightly, so maybe then I'll like it. Or not. /o) Maggiepie

Forgot to add, there IS ONE "variety" of rice I will NOT eat. It's so-called "instant" rice. That crud is, I swear, made out of something inedible. (Styrofoam?) Not only is it almost entirely lacking in nutrition & flavor, it's not really even INSTANT! you still have to cook it. I'd rather eat a package of ramen soup which takes just as long, with some chives & sliced almonds maybe, than to try to stomach THAT stuff. At least ramen doesn't PRETEND it's nutritious! LOL! I had to do that a month ago, when I was staying all by myself, alone.I love rice, but I was too lazy to even cook for myself after coming back from work.It is boring to cook just for one person, and have it alone.I used to eat instant noodles, maggie, bread butter and ommlette or get it from some restaurant. Now,my younger brother is staying with me, so I cooked everyday,at least one time"rice".Happy myLOtting!

U mean you also experience it that it is so lazy to do a house hold chores especially when it is preparing food for just one person after work right so we only have to prepare food which is instant......

Yes i can but i have to with some other substitute like pasta or bread or salad then i can go through another day but i know im still missing rice and there is no point of threating oneself of not eating rice unless your on diet. which im not so im eating most of the time rice.

i t is good to know that it is not only I who cannot manage without it but sometimes through busy schedule in the household for chores then for sure I would only eat what I have and so lazy to prepare for another recipe of the day.....

Hi friend, I can manage without eating rice everyday. But we in south India have only rice for lunch.I am not particular in having rice everyday.I am satisfied with even sandwiches. Its enough if I have rice 3 to four times a week.I used to diet and have chapathis for days together without rice.As rice increases your calories and we gain weight only because of having too much rice.thanks for sharing.happy mylotting.

Yes, I can well manage without eating rice for the whole day. And the fact is that in a lunar month I do like this twice that is once in a fortnight. I take very light and simple tiffin or fruits on those days. This is one type of dieting through fasting that many people practise. Thanks for this nice posting!

I can live without rice. I barely ever eat it anyway, but on the contrary i cannot survive without pastas. I am half italian and Pasta is my love. I make homemade cressants, spagetti with natural homemade sauce, lasagna, cataloni, everything that you can imagine. It's very funny sometimes how much i can actually make when it comes to italian foods. My husband had went down to see my mom and my step dad one day while i was in school and my step dad was talking about my mom buring all the food and not knowing how to cook or anything lol, she's dutch so she knows different styles of food and is very good about mixing and matching with food, however, she burns a lot. And my husband had told my step dad, when it comes to Italian food I have never met a better cook. That woman has made me gain almost 25 lbs since i've been with her. lol. I thought it was hilarous. But yea i love to cook.

Hi Rice is more common here for a dinner side . Lately , I have been craving it so much and making a bowl of white rice for lunch . I like to add some cheese, and some garlic, and some spray butter ! My inlaws had us over to dinner the other week and they made rice with a can of veggie soup and it was actually pretty good !

I probably haven't eaten any rice in at least a month. Rice is good, but it is not necessarily considered something we eat with every meal. I just don't think it is like that here in the U.S. Now, you go take away our bread and we might get a little cranky!(:

Yeah, I totally agree with that one, I can't have a sandwich at lunch without bread. Well, I could have some bologna with mustard on it, but then it would not be a sandwich, it would just be bologna with mustard.

Most of us on myLot do not have rice as our staple diet...so it is not difficult for us to go without rice for long lengths of time in some cases. Some people will substitute bread or pasta and in Australia, vegetables are regularly eaten.... potato is a pretty much a staple whether it be fried as chips or mashed.

Hello iyah10, I am a rice person. I can't live without eating rice. I can survive for a day but if it is more than that, I will start to look for it. Even if I eat something beside rice, I will still go and look for rice afterward as I feel like my life is incomplete without having a rice meal! Sound silly? I don't know...
