What's your nickname? How did you get it?

Tell me the story of your nickname. I personally have never really had one. My name cannot really be shortened except to take off the last letter. I don't think that counts as a nickname.
My parents were teens in the 50s and it seems like everyone they knew back then had a nickname. My dad was "Toad" if you can believe it! He's never really said why though.
My husband has a different story. In his immediate family he is known by his middle name. Everyone else in the world calls him by his first name. It was odd at our wedding because my family knew him as one name and his own family referred to him as another name. I think they wondered if he had an alias!
How about you? What is your nickname? Does everyone use it? What's the story behind it? Do you like it or is it irritating?

Pinky. My maternal grandfather (he's the greatest) gave that name. It is so far different from my real name. He said that if my mother won't name me "Pinky," he will not wash my cloth diapers. They said i looked so pink when i was born, that's why he wanted to name me that. Well, i grew up with everybody calling me Pinky. But that is not my real name. In grade school, my nick's the first syllable of my real name. In high school it was the same, but best friends who frequent our house started to call me my nick. IN college, i have a second name and teachers prefer calling me that. I like my nick name because i very much loved the man who gave that to me. He and my grandma took care of me until high school.

My nick is calimero. Cos I am olived skin with a dark tan. So a friend of mine told me you resemble the puppet that was popular on television.

my friend Gracie calls me anneabell, why I don't know,lol. And then my family calls me Annie.

when i was young everybody called me jojo. jo is my middle name. very few people call me that now. if they do it would be someone who has known me a long time.

My nickname is Linus. I got it from a night sleeping in a church. I was dragging a blanket around trying to decide where to sleep. My friend called me Linus. I adopted the name aka (also known as) Linus for my writing. It is in my blog and I have used it for years throughout the Internet.
