Lately my brother and his wife are arguing almost everyday. My brother is earning good enough and is planning to buy a new house. He wants to buy a big, independent house but his wife is keen to go for an apartment in a multi-storey building. What would you prefer? Personally I would also prefer an apartment as I amlikely to feel lonely in independent house.

I live in a single family home right now and couldnt stand to go back to apartment living...A duplex maybe but an apartment wouldn't work for me....

So you are enjoying your stay in a single family house. There are many people who dislike living in apartment.

We lived in houses for years, then moved to an apartment for a year. Now we are back in a house. Because we still have kids at home, I prefer a house. When we are a little older, I think a senior citizen apartment complex will be an option we will consider. In some cities we've lived, neighborhoods were really social, others not so much. An apartment complex that caters to a specific age group might be more neighborly and I'd like that.

Thank you for BR. When we lived in our apartment, we had some very nice neighbors. Our new neighborhood is not so social.

Thanks for your response Whittby. Yeah, maybe since our children our away we want to live an an apartment because of company and safety reasons.Among many neighbours hope we'll be able to fine a couple of them whom we can befriend.

Surely I would also like to stay where I can see people around as I like to talk or just say hello to people around when I go for a walk.

We are living in a rented house,a duplex where I've a vast collection of plants. Maybe my kids are away so we want to stay in an apartment and ofcourse I am worried about my plants.

Hello,Comfort! I don't like the apartment culture. In an apartment you will not feel free any way.You will not find space to grow some plants particularly flower plants which is essential for every household for decorating the surroundings. So in my opinion independent house is better so that you can modify the structure of the house as and when desired which is not possible in an apartment.Thanx.

No doubt one can maintain a lovely garden in an independent house while one gets closer to nature but these things we don't get in an apartment. Happy mylotting!

I've always wanted my own little house but since I'm getting older and can't do all the yard work and upkeep an apartment is a more logical choice. We live in an apartment now and other than the rules and not having a yard, it's allright. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG AND TRUST IN GOD**

I have been away from home for more than 7 years and i have now experienced my stay in almost all of the options you mentioned. I have spent years staying in a hostel and now i stay in a rented house. And i think no one else here would be in a better position to explain the differences between them. Though i enjoy the freedom, being away from home and independent but at the same time, i am burdened with many other responsibilities. In hostel, though we didnt had to look after our rooms cleaning and all but in a rented house, thats a major work and then provision for drinking water, and house cleaning. washing clothes.,,huh my weekend goes in that only.. And ya food, i miss that food cooked by my mohter. But being away is my compulsion. So can't help it.. But in the coming months, my brother is returning to India and hopefully, he will be settling in the same city as i am along with his wife, so perhaps, i wont face any such problems of food then and we will be staying in a rented falt, most probably.

Hello Vipul! The problems you've been facing over the years since you are away from home, I can understand because both my kids have also gone through same stages. But now the elder one has settled down after marriage and probably younger one will take another year or so. So don't worry day will come soon when you'll also settle down in life.

Hi there comfort55 At the moment I live in a house and have no intention of moving as I love my house. I wouldn't want to live in an appartment having people possibly living above, below and either side of me it is bad enough that I have one neighboutr that makes a lot of noise! I have a lovely garden and a place right outside of my house to park my car it's perfect!
