To be human...

I am wondering what it is meant when people say "to be human"? Is it to be wrong or flawed? I would think that it would have a good meaning since we are the only "intelligent" being on the planet. I don't understand the meaning or where it even came from.

hi Silvrfoxx! being human ...hmmm being human means being capable of love, compassion, mercy, at the same time as being selfish, greedy, and hateful, which ultimatley proves that we are guided by emotions and very rarely by logic and we make mistakes.

hi silverfoxx. well, i think "to be human" means being capable to be rational. to have empathy for fellow human (even to animals and life situations). also, "to be human" is to have a heart. =) just my humble opinion.

Not sure where the term came from but, to me it means humbled to the point of unter humanism. Perhaps you could look at as flawed. But more of inperfection in a very nice way. To be human. To be real. To be uncomplex.

From a philosophical perspective, to be human is to be responsible - not merely accountable, for one's own action. Put it this way. A dog barking that knows it's a dog barking THAT knows it's a dog barking (yeah, it's not a typo) is a person. (Don't rake your brains out from this one because there is NO dog that knows it's a dog that knows it's a dog). I think therefore I am. It's not only a matter of existence but of existing as a human being. It's also not only a matter of thoughts but of human thoughts. That's what I learned after three semesters of Philosophy. Pretty good stuff.
