It's difficult to get sick in the US if you are not insured while you don't pay at all in England. How is it like in your country?

Thanks for responding. I'm wondering why it should be so different in different countries. England, Canada, France and even poorer countries have a very good health system while our country India is heading the US way. Health care is becoming like a commercial commodity sold in the market.

I'm from germany and we didn't have to pay either, but i think that has changed in the last decade. I'm in Las Vegas now and luckily i have insurance. I pay $10 to see the doctor and $20 for the emergency room if i can't wait to see the doctor. I'm not sure about the hospital course i haven't been yet. "Thank God".

We have the NHS service which is very good but it is untrue that we don't pay for it as we do just a different and better way than in the US I think because no one is discriminated we are all provided with the same quality of service regardless of the amount of taxes we contribute. I often wonder how other people go on in countries where they do have to pay their own medical bills.

Thanks for responding. I watched the movie Sicko by Michael Moore yesterday and I'm really impressed by the NHS. If that is true, the movie shows that there is a fixed price whether u need more medicine or less. It's all less than 10 pounds. That's unimaginable in my country. Much worse in the US, for those who are sick and poor, the movie showed them stitching their own wounds, the hospital dumping them for not paying their bills and the insurance people refusing coverage as much as possible just for profit

I am from Denmark and we don't pay hospital bills in my country, we pay for medical assistance through the taxes. We don't have to worry about bills when we see a doctor, go to the emergency room or get admitted to hospital, but our taxes are very high. If you make $20 an hour, you only receive about $12. Our health system isn't perfect, the waitinglists are often long and there are other problems, but it is nice not having to worry about hospital bills. We have some private hospitals as well, so if you are able to pay for your own treatment, you can often skip the waitinglist.
