Sleeping is such a waste of time. I hate sleeping. Do you?

Hi all, Our life is very short. People sleep for more than 20 years (one third) of their life time.Such a terrible waste of time. I would like to enjoy every second of my life, staying awake and knowing things gives me pleasure. Sleeping gives me a guilty consciousness of losing out something. There were sages and yogis who slept for only 2 hours a day. Everyone of us can do it. It is how we program our system (our body). People who say that every living organism needs rest, should also understand that there are organisms which never sleeps and there are organisms which always sleeps (hibernation). When does our heart takes rest, it works continuously. Why can't we be awake all the time. Please share your thoughts regards

I am not talking about zero sleep. I am talking about sleeping less, but a high quality sleep. You might see some kids, who sleep for more than 10 hours yet they will look very dull. The point is maintaining your body metabolism and high quality sleep. You got to understand your body rather than going by what the so called health pundits say. regards

On the one hand, wouldn't it be nice if we didn't need those hours of sleep? Think of what we could be doing.... On the other hand, I actually enjoy my sleep when I can get it. I guess I appreciate it because I get woken up so often (snoring husband, cats, bladder, kids, etc.). But then again if I didn't need it, that would be kind of a moot point.

I dont agree with you, for it is quite wrong to say sleeping is a waste of time. do you know, someone will die if he or she has not slept during seven days. it is quite important for us to have enough sleep. if we do not sleep enough, we cannot work well even live well. working contiuously is wrong for a person who want to work well. in my opinion, i love sleeping because i can take a long rest after a whole day's hard working. i hope you can enjoy it too

Wow, I'm not alone in that I share the way that you think. I think that sleeping is very much so a waste of your time, so I often find myself staying up very late at night... Which... As they say... Is not good for your health in general. They're saying a lot of things about how HUMANS *need* rest, and there's a direct correlation to the way you feel, act, and how well you are physically. So despite the fact that I dislike sleep, and I don't want to sleep, I still NEED to sleep, because of the health benefits, and the fact that I hate *feeling* tired, because of the fact that your body NEEDS rest. Here are a few things that your body needs rest because of: (Remember, I'm just putting the information along, if any of it is "wrong", then tell me, don't hate me for putting out the information) If you don't sleep your body will need more food to function longer, and your body will be tired, so it will work less on breaking down that food, and more on trying to shut it down. Thus... Weight gain. Heart Diseases... Yes, it's true that your heart is always working, but while you're asleep, your heart rate decreases due to your body being at rest and needing less energy and work from your heart... Over-all thinking patterns: If your brain doesn't rest... You'll be in the gutters with your mind... (Not pervert wise, but in terms of how WELL you think). And there are a lot more reasons why as well... It's scientifically proven that humans NEED a certain amount of sleep to function at "peek" performance. Of course, as time goes on, science changes, and that could mean as technology advances, we may need less sleep due to better health conditions, etc, etc.

I used to have the same perception as you too and that is to have as little time to sleep as possible so that I can use the time for other stuff that is more useful. I rarely took naps, I will sleep as late as I can and wake up as early as possible. However, ever since I started working part-time while being a full-time student, I am exhausted and sleep-deprived. Sleeping becomes something precious to me and I will always sleep whenever I have the chance to. I would rather choose sleeping at home rather than hanging out with my friend during my free time. This is because the time when I am at home resting and slacking has become so little. This is when I realise that sleeping is a neccesity. Even super power machine, a non-living thing can break down or wear out sooner or later if overworked. What will become a body of human that goes without sleep?

I won't hate sleeping. Because I rarely got a good sleep. It is because I have kids and my baby usually wakes up in a wee hours. So I need to be awake as well. I also attend to their needs the whole day. And do a lot of online works. So I don't hate sleep but needs it badly.

I love sleep!! It's my time to dream, let my body heal and be ready for the next day. It's also a time when our spirits get time to leave our bodies for a bit and explore. I guess we were made that way for a reason and I don't mind. I just hate it when I don't get enough sleep and feel tired during the day.

I completely agree that we should be able to stay up all the time. I know that realistically, that is impossible because our body does need the rest, but I have so much to do and sleep seems to get in my way. I work a full time job, go to school at night, and have plenty of hobbies that I do in my free time that also doubles as extra side money. I work on crafts, read books that I turn into money and write novels which I hope to publish. These are only some of the hobbies that take up my time. If I was awake for even 5 more hours, I could definitely accomplish more. There are energy drinks out there, and while I have tried a few during only few times of crunch, I prefer to stay as natural as possible. otherwise your body stays up a little longer for that day but then crashes during another. Eventually the lack of sleep will catch up.

I love sleeping, especially after work.. It makes me energize and lively again. It also help to make my thinking better. Some might think not to sleep to enjoy life and spent most of our life on other things but here is my question, 'how can we enjoy life if people will not like us because we are like a living skeleton that walks on streets?..." Have time to sleep... it has a purpose... maybe the purpose is to have an energy to enjoy life more! I will sleep now! Good night mi amigos!

sleeping is not a waste of time.. instead it releases our mind.. sets it free... but it doesnt mean that we must sleep all the time.. we need to sleep little and work more.. 4 hours of sleep is good for both enjoyment and rest.. but it we can use the time of sleeping for something else... if there is a lot of work then we can skip sleeping and do that work ,. cant we? .... and we must not sleep when we have work.. there will be a lot of situations when we are jobless at that time we can sleep.... proper planning will make our life better and comfortable.. we need to adjust in the begging but later it will be alright

Sleep helps regenerate our bodies. It helps keep us healthy and sane. As such IMO it isn't a waste of time, but necessary. For me, being pregnant, I am not getting enough. And soon I will get even less. So I will miss it.

I dont think that sleeping is a waste of time at all, unless your doing it to keep from doing other things, or passing the day away. Like me i am a fullt ime student and worker and when its time for me to get my rest, i am proud to have my sleep over take me during this time. Its very much appreciated.

I love sleeping... For me, I don't think that sleeping is just a waste of time.. I really love sleeping.. Most of my time or during my rest day, I'll sleep.. I will take a nap for a whole day since most of the time I'm tired at work.. I agree with you that life is short and people need to enjoy the life that they still have because when we die we can't do the same thing as we may do when we are alive.. But of course not all the time we can enjoy our life.. There are some point that that we need to rest our mind and body for the tiresome day or for thinking all the problems in life.. And besides not all the time we have something to do.. So for me when there's a time that I don't have something to do then I'll just take a nap or sleep because when I'm sleeping it seems that I am doing something (in my dreams).. I don't hate sleeping, I really love to sleep.. I can sleep for 12 hours a day during my rest day.. I really love sleeping..

I love sleep. I make sure I get at least 7 hours of sleep a day. It's the way our bodies recharge. I don't doubt that Sages and Yogis can sleep for only 2 hours a day but they live in very different environments than some people in different parts of the world do. People are always busy. Some have to go to school, others work. You're right that we have to program our systems to be able to do that but we also have to have the time to train our bodies to do that and many people simply don't have the time. I remember when I was little I hated going to bed because there was always something else I could be doing with that time. I agree that we should make the most of every single second of our lives. Time is precious. I like your philosophy on life though as I see you really love it.
