A vinegar rinse has helped some people. You mix water and vinegar half and half and pour it over your head after shampooing. Don't rinse it off, but towel dry your hair. The smell will disappear quickly. Dandruff is sometimes an imbalance in the ph of the scalp and vinegar can rebalance that. Commercial preparations often take the bandaid approach, masking the symptom and never addressing the cause.

Have you tried hot oil treatments? These could also work for you. An old practice would be to shampoo your hair with coconut juice. Then rinse it thouroughly. Do this everyday till the dandruff is gone. Hope this helps!

hi manjalvaanam! i could suggest you to change your shampoo and find out that you think suites your hair. not all shampoos gives a good effect on your scalp. it would also be better if you consult a dermatologist or any specialist for scalp and hair. i have also learned that hot oils helps in lessening dandruff. happy posting and happy mylotting!

Are you under a lot of stress? Sometimes stress depletes many of the nutrients necessary for skin and scalp health. Taking Vitamin C, lecithin, and apple cider vinegar internally sometimes helps. And I second the notion of a vinegar hair rinse.

You said you're using an ayurvedic shampoo. Do you know the properties of the herbs in it? Most dandruff shampoos target dry scalp. If your shampoo doesn't have a seborial (sp) regulator, it may be adding to your problem by stimulating the oil or sebum production. In that case, the vinegar rinse will definitely help.

i am completely stress free.my doctor diagonised it as sebaroic dermattis which as u said the skin depletes as scales.but the reason he told that it might be due to over production of sebum which secrets more for oily skin.i have heard people saying stress also may be a reason but in my case its totally a skin problem..i'll try wat you have said ..thank you

dandruff is really a big problem even my brother has a major problem like this and it usually happens more when we are out in dust pollution for the most of the time. i can suggest you coconut oil is the best conditioner and everytime before your bath just apply coconut oil for overnight and then take bath which helps a lot and just try to keep your hairs moisturised as much as possible so that the scalp doesnt become dry and doesnt generate dandruff. and also doctors can help you out if its concerned to some infection.

applying oil will never cause you any harm and its my experience what i had told you, to follow or not its left on you and i think you have some infection and hence the doctor had told you this. but anyways i hope your problem gets solved and your dandruff gets cleared.

dear mylotter, i think the scalp should be free from oil to get rid of dandruff.my doctor has adviced not to use any oil..but i can use them before bath whether heated oil or cooled one. but shud not leave it the whole day on head...i recommend ur brother also to do this..dont apply oil on scalp for whole day.

Check this out There have been many strategies for the control of dandruff. Simply increasing shampooing will remove flakes.[9] However, elimination of the fungus results in dramatic improvement. Regular shampooing with an anti-fungal product can reduce recurrence. Soothing preparations may contain Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda),[10] and coal tar based products.[11] The commonest antifungal agents used are Zinc pyrithione,[12] Selenium sulfide and Ketoconazole[13] Other products used include Tea tree oil[14] and Piroctone olamine (Octopirox).[15] Anti-fungal/anti-dandruff shampoos containing ketoconazole have been shown to be more effective than zinc pyrithione.[16] Although one study has reported selenium sulfide as being the most effective of the tested shampoos at treating dandruff, [17] a later comparative study concluded that ketoconazole was the most effective antifungal agent.[18]

Peavey said it first, but vinegar is inexpensive and a good solution. If you can get apple cider vinegar, that is what everyone I know uses. Otherwise, pretty much any kind of vinegar will do. Here is a link that gives different points of view on how to use the vinegar: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf705530.tip.html You might find this page helpful as well: http://www.health911.com/remedies/rem_dand.htm Good luck and yes, do let us know. It might take up to a month before you get the results you want.

Hello manjalvaanam I think it is common problem for all. In my opinion 80% peoples are suffering from this problem. In the past I have also experienced same problem and I had used medicine and shampoos, but all were in vain. At last I discussed the matter with ayurvedic specialist who given me some domestic tips, which really helped me. I am explaining you for your benefit and if you think it is good then you can use these (1) lukewarm oil can be used on the scalp by way of massaging (2) Before going to bath you can apply lemon juice all over the scalp and wait for atleast 30 to 40 minutes and thereafter take your bath with lukewarm water. Pl. do these for regular 3 months you will be free from dandruff. pkc3000

If your using a gel or wax, before you sleep you need to wash your hair so that the gel won't turn into dandruff, and always use a anti-dandruff shampoo like clear or head and shoulders shampoo it is the best shampoos i ever used.

I would like to share some potential causes of dandruff so that everybody should be aware of this and could rid out of this dandruff. The use of cheap hair care products that dry or irritate the scalp as well as chemical and mechanical over styling-especially conditioners. Go to a salon and ask for product recommendation or to a health specialist. Poor nutrition and food allergies could also be the caused. Dry environments that lead to dryness of the scalp. Stress and lack of sleep have also been blamed.

My son and daughter have these flakes on their heads that I always make a joke by singing...white christmas. The dermatologist says, its the hormones since they are active teens. The mosteffective shampoo is head and shoulders. But there is nothing as effective as calamansi. the small round lemon plant. The calamansi juice is applied around the scalp.let stay for about 20 minutes. Then wash. Really effective. as for adults, our dermatologist says, dandruff is caused by stress. it would even affect the eyebrows.

I read recently in a magazine to pour a cup of mouthwash on your scalp before going into the shower. Pour mouth wash on, massage into scalp and leave for a couple of minutes, then just shower as normal.
