Attention all Knitters and Crocheters

I recently came across this site, thanks to All You. I don't knit but I do crochet. This is the the online home to a grass-roots program called www.nationalww2museum.org/education/for-general-public/knit-your-bit.html. Knit Your Bit. Started in 2006 by the National WW II Museum in New Orleans, the group asks knitters and crocheters nationwide to download scarf patterns for free (at the site above), and then send the knit scarves to the address listed online. Knit Your Bit will then deliver the thousands of cozy scarves to V.A. hospitals and veterans centers all across the U.S. What a great way to say thank you. They have the new 2008 patterns up online.

What a great idea. I haven't knitted in a long time but that would be something I would like to try. I need something to do during the day. I get bored. At least this would be something I could try and if it works out, I would feel like I helped someone in some way. Thank you for sharing and God Bless you.

I wish I knew how to knit and crochet. I just do not have the time to learn it though. I don't have anyone to teach me either. I would have a hard time finding time to do it also but I really like the finished pieces that other people make.

What a great idea! That's easier to take part in than many charity knitting projects. I have a couple of things on the needles but when I finish, I'll look at it again.

Oh what a great site. I am so going to do this. I've been looking for busy work and wanting to support our troops more. This does both in one project.

Here's another great site for knitters and crocheters. Ravelry.com. This site was very good, filled with tons of great info and tips. Sadly, I haven't been on the site for quite awhile because I don't knit as often as I'd like. But I think some of the knitters and crocheters on myLot might find this to be a useful site. I believe you need to ask for an invitation (takes about 4 or 5 days before it arrives in your email) and there's probably close to 200,000 members on the site by now. It's a great FREE site, check it out!

Hi kimbers867. I love to knit!! What an interesting website. I did check it out and also took a look at the 2008 scarf pattern. Looks pretty simple to do. I am knitting a scarf right now but it would not meet their pattern criteria, even though it sounds like there's some leeway with their criteria. Thanks for telling us about this website and the patterns. P.S. I've missed your daily myLot discussions on what "day" it is! Even my husband asked me yesterday, "What day is it today?" no kidding.
