I was reading my e-mail a few minutes ago. At the top of the page was one of those ads advertising a weight loss program. What caught my attention was the before and after pictures. I didn't see anything wrong with the before picture, personally. I would like to get your opinion on this. Which one do you think looks more like a woman SHOULD look?

Hi bohemian'-to be honest I think there is too much emphasis put on how a woman SHOULD look like nowadays..I was watching a programme on diets etc and theor was a dr come dietician there and he even said your body will stop at the weight it is meant to be...obviously there are people who abuse that and do get overweight but just toning up is all you need sometimes...littleowl

You are very right it makes me feel so sorry for the way young girls think they should be like sticks the media have a lot to be blamed for too on that..but as for the photos you put on this discussion I prefer the one before the one after looks awful! hugs littleowl

Yeah, but there are some who push it too far the other way, too, little owl. And, I agree, there is too much emphasis on how a woman is supposed to look. We come in all shapes and sizes, but, most of us are not model thin, and we do have a few more curves, we are made to feel that there is something wrong with us. That's just not right. There are a lot of little girls growing up thinking that they aren't supposed to weigh more than 95 pounds, that they are supposed to be little stick figures. Again, that is just not right.

i dont get these guys that want women with the body of a 1 year old boy! I have an hour glass figure and I have no desire to look like an ironing board!

Oh, that is a good one!
My daughter is always complaining because she has "birthing hips". She is 5', cute as a bug, and can be absolutely gorgeous at times. She was married to a guy who evidently wanted someone who was 5'10" and weighed 90 pounds. He was always telling her she needed to work out, and/or loose weight. I could have strangled that boy!
This is a picture of her and my niece. She is the one on the right. I think they are both absolutely what young women should look like.

Hello thebohemianheart, I have seen these too. They are annoying. I asked my boyfriend and he said the first photo was better. I see that also. I think that if you have curves, so be it. That doesn't mean you are "fat". I am thin. I have a little meat on my belly from having my "brat pack" 4. He and I agreed that the second person doesn't look right because to be that thin, there should be some muscle to accentuate the figure to even begin to look healthy!

So far the consensus has been that men prefer a little shape and substance. I am happy to hear that. That second picture, to me, is just not right. If that is actually the same person......well, she's kinda messed up.

I understand that some women are just naturally thin. I have a sister like that. She's had 3 kids. Even now, in her 40's she's thin. I don't have a problem with that. My biggest concern is that the girls these days are saying they are fat when they weigh 100 pounds, or if they have curvy hips. My daughter is built the same way I am, but I am 5'7", she's 5 feet nothing and still has this image of what she is SUPPOSED to look like stuck in her head from her ex telling her she needed to lose weight.

That's the same person? Hard to believe that anyone that looked like the before picture would choose to look like the after picture. Even the Hollywood stars are starting to protest the demand to be "model thin". We're women. We're supposed to have curves!

At first I thought it was two different people, but that belly button is pretty much unmistakably the same one. I agree, if you are naturally curvy, be proud of it. One of my favorite movies to watch with my daughter is Real Women Have Curves.

I think she looks just fine the way she was, she wasn't flopping out and she didn't look like she was a blob of jelly. Of course an unhealthy, overweight girl can go and try to lose weight, because it can be beneficial to her, but this particular before looks perfect as is! But I, myself, am really skinny, and I like the way I look too. I just don't have much of an appetite, I don't really chose to be this skinny, but I'm not going to force myself to eat a lot of junk food just to make other people happy either. There is no perfect body!

You have a point there, sheepie. A perfect body is the one we are most comfortable in. I am sure you saw my comment about my size in high school. I never minded being skinny, but I don't mind being a Botticelli woman, as Irish calls us, either.
