Have you started thinking about Christmas?

I am dreading the Holiday season. I love the actual Holiday but this year is going to be rough. If things don't turn around for me soon there will be no giving of Christmas gifts this year not even the homemade gifts. I can't afford to even get the stuff to make goodie baskets for our friends like I usually do every Christmas. At the rate I am going all the money I get from my Letters from Santa will be going to get my bank account back to positive. I start taking orders for Letters from Santa October 1st on my website (the link is on my profile). I usually don't get my first sale till November although I am hoping for a better year I am not holding my breath cause I have been in a dead spell since last Santa letter season, I haven't been able to sell hardly anything since then (one teddy bear in 9 months 4 articles that total less than $5 in sales. Have you started thinking about Christmas yet? Bought anything yet? Excited or dreading it?

We stopped giving gifts at Christmas years ago. When we would ask, "what do you want for Christmas?" the response was always, "oh, I don't know." Who wants to do Christmas shopping when you have to deal with that? We also don't give anything to any of the children because they don't appreciate what they get anyway. They want everything and are grateful for nothing. I'm not going to waste my money on them. Since we stopped giving gifts it has made Christmas a much more enjoyable holiday.

my child (18) must be different from most children. She appreciates everything she recieves. Must have something to do with not getting stuff given to her all year round making the Holidays less special. She enjoys and looks forward to the Holidays and she doesn't ask for everything under the sun and is happy with what she does recieve.

I think parents can do themselves a big favor if they did not always give in and give to their children all the time.

I'm so sorry for coming in so late. Though the last Christmas has already passed and it was very good, I'm yet to start thinking about next Christmas.

I think we are all feeling that way this year...things are really tight everywhere. I cannot believe that the holidays are already this close. I have begun to start thinking about how things will get purchased. I think with a little extra planning it will all work out.

Yes and No. I didn't quite notice that christmas was fast approaching because of all the work i've been doing. Yet when I go for a walk I see the stores are already playing the christmas tunes. Matter of fact, there was a few stores here that had banners all over the place and some even had something written like "Christmas in September". heheheh. cheers!!!

It drives me bonkers to think about Christmas until it is nearly upon us! I think it is too commercialized and the stores pack in their Christmas stuff way too early. That said, it is not too early to think about making things for gifts. I think that is what Christmas is all about , anyway. I like to crochet hats and toys and stuff like that. I also make jewelry and wind chimes. I write stories and illustrate them. I like to give of myself. So, if your sales are not going too well this year, (which they may not since the economy looks so bleak), why not just make your Santa letters for your gifts? Or your teddy bears, or what ever it is you sell? Remember the sirit of the season, not the monetary aspects of it.

So now that christmas is over how was it? Did things get any better for you? Did you get to spend the holidays with your family? That is the most important part of christmas, not the gifts. So did you earn enough money from your site, to make any presents? How was it? I know I am just rattling on but I am looking for more to say to make this response worth anything as I don't like to respond one liners or two liners. Alrighty then, talk to you later my friend, Have a good mylotting day, Chris

Our Christmas was very slim and no family to spend it with. Finances were rough everywwhere and all our family is halfway across the US from us. We live in FL they live in AR. We didn't get to see them at all last year cause my brother could not afford to bring the family here to fl last year or this year. My uncle is clear across the US in CA. He is just getting too old to travel so he hasn't been here in two years.

I know i have 9 people i will be spending Christmas with...I've been carefully purchasing gifts since the beginning of the month...one per pay cheque (every 2 weeks) and intend to do this until I have all my gifts purchased. I find though that my dad granddad and boyfriend are the hardest on my list to pick a gift for.

I have decided to give my 2 great nieces (1 one year old by Christmas and 1 4 years old)and my niece (4 years old) each a handmade teddy bear with a hand crocheted blanket for the bear. For the other two babies (a close friends granddaughter and great granddaughter both will be 1 by christmas) I will also give handmade teddies and blankets for the teddies. Now I just got to sell some of my stuff (my teddy bears, photos, and other crafts) in order to buy the stuff to make the bears I have plenty of yarn for the blankets. That just leaves my brother, his s/o, my nephew, and my closest friends (about 3-4). I am hoping thinngs pick up enough for me to do this.

I wasn't until you brought it up SD! I hate to say it but Christmas is not my favorite holiday, people are always trying to out do each other and it gets really annoying with all the junk you have to deal with up until Christmas. Pushy people, crowds of idiots with no credit and a chip on their shoulder. Its become too commericial and that has drowned out the spiritual.

Years ago my family decided to stop doing Christmas gift giving. We were all working and could get what we wanted when we wanted so didn't need anyone to get "it" for us, plus no one ever indicated an interested in anything. It's hard buying when no one will tell you want they want. We still bought for the children, but they never seemed to appreciate anything so we stopped that also. The gift giving part of Christmas is fun if you're a child, but it's a real pain otherwise.

My snowman cans - These were mostly recycled items. I had the paint on hand except for the blue spray paint for the base coat. I put homemade mixes in the large ones, and a votive candle in the small. They were well received.
I am thinking, and trying to come up with some gifts to give. I made a lot of things last year, actually from recycled items. I did not give them to everyone, but I cannot remember who did receive them. I used recycled cans, painted a winter scene on them, used recycled curly wire and made handles. In the biggest I put homemade cappuccino mix, the second I made a home made muffin mix, and the third, really little can I made into a votive holder. Family members really enjoyed them.It sounds like you have many irons in the fire, but none of them are paying right now. Have you tried writing for other sites, or doing some independent contracting like mystery shopping or merchandising?

Hello there, I have started thinking about Christmas, even dated back from the early months of this year. But not for excitement, only for commitment - giving all the relatives and friends a decent but affordable presents. So I try to buy something nice when they are on sale and store them away when the times come. LOL

It has been such a rough year for me financially that I haven't been able to shop through the year like I would like to do. I didn't get the hours at work this year that I should have because we had a new office manager who worked the newbies more than the seniors (not that I am that much of a senior as this is my third year) so I didn't have the good checks I am used to. I hope this coming tax season will be better for me but that will be after Christmas.

Hello sweetdesign, It is really dreadful if you think about the people whom you are going to give gifts this Christmas. With inflation high and uncertainty in economy, Christmas is bleak is you look at that way. But I think the holiday season will not be dreadful. It is a good break from the gloomy outlook of this year. I don't expect to have so many gift this Christmas season. To be with your family and love ones is good enough. Simple gifts is good enough as long as the spirit of Christmas season is their. Christmas has been commercialize and it's a good thing we have all this thing happening. It will lessened the commercialization and we can celebrate Christmas better with less gifts. Have a great day. Regards.

I love the Holiday season business is generally good. when my childre were younger a wonderfriend and I did Santa letters Not hugely sucessful but we did get responses. Then we did art fairs and few craft fairs with hand made wreaths and hand made pottery This did much better and was our main christmas money. She is gone now and I miss christmas shopping with her more than anything. Your article brought back wonderful memories of fall days and the joy of the days yet to come. Thank you and good luck

Your welcome. I did pretty good on my letters last year and hope that they do better this year. I had to use a lot of the money last year to bail my bank account out of overdraft and hopefully won't have to do that this year. This year I have the added benefit of having my paypal debit card so I don't have to transfer my funds to my bank account. I am hoping my bears take off and start bringing in much needed finances. I am also hoping that some of my photos start selling at redbubble. I will continue to write for AC and Helium in hopes of gaining extra funds to use for Christmas.

I don't know if this even applies to your family or not but let m share something our family did a few years ago. Several of the family members were laid off and just having financial difficulties thorugh the holidays. As far as our immdiate family we made a rule... No gifts at all of any kind. We called it our giftless Christmas which I didn't come up with title or even like it! LOL But we all went to my mothers on Christmas day and took a covered dish. Some brought meat and other brought veggies and so forth. And everyone was asked to bring a photo album of their families. Some did bring DVD's and VHS and so forth. After spending the day watching those videos and looking through pictures I kid you not it was one of the best Christmas gatherings we ever had. We laughed, we cried and we even sang songs (not Christmas songs there were talent shows and things on the videos that the kids had done)..hope you get the point. This may be a good year to do that again for us. Good Luck !

Most of the reason i'm responding to this is to help a fellow citizen, but on the subject, I can't wait til Christmas! ^_^ I won't be giving or getting too many presents i'm sure, but it is still a great holiday to enjoy with your family and friends. Enjoy it in any way you can, even without the gifts. :) Other than that, I hope everything works out. :D

I am going to attempt to make small goodie bags for friends they just won't be as full and wonderful as before. I enjoy baking and I do it well so that is one thing I am still going to try to do. It is just that the prices of everything is going up and up and income level is going down and down.
