When you have to leave your child with a babysitter what do you expect from them while you are away ? If they are watching your children in your own home do you expect them to do any of your housework , play with your children all day , make there meals , give them medicine if they are running a fever etc , what is that you expect from them ? Is there anything that your babysitter does for you that you do not expect as part of their job ?

I only expect the babysitter to keep my child happy. Perhaps I would expect more of a daycare or nanny.

I expect the sitter to treat the children as they would their own.

No I wouldn't expect any housework to be done unless something were spilled or broke then I would expect it picked or cleaned up for safety reasons. I would have their medicine already premeasured for them to take, No wouldn't expect them to play all the time or all day that can wear someone out I would also have food pre-made and just expect it to be warmed up. Tucking the kids in and reading a story wouldn't be a part of the job but very much appreciated.

I expect her to treat my baby is if it was hers. That she takes good care of him, feeding and bathing him if necessary. She is in loca parentis. Do whatever a parent do to take care of his/her child.

They are not there to clean up my home but to pick up after the kids, feed them, if needed, put them in bed, make sure they are behaved, safe, do homework, if they have any at that time, play with them or read them stories, etc., or follow any particular directions that I give them. First and foremost is their safety.

I think that it depends on the terms that the person was hired under. Basically you are to instruct them for what you want done and pay accordingly. If you are hiring someone to watch your kids then thats all they should do is to make sure they are safe and entertained. For the first few years of my son's life I had a live in nanny and she has all of the responsibilities that you named above and she was compensated for that plus her housing was provided and a car to transport my child. If I needed her services after my work day then I compensated her additionally. She was with us until he started school.

i think a babysitter is just that, someone who comes over and watches the child(ren) for a while. a nanny is more of the person who keeps your child while you are at work and takes care of them when they are sick. feeds them and cleans up after them. I have never had a nanny, but my uncles girlfriend was a nanny and she got paid a whole lot of money!!! i have only had a babysister for my children when i needed to run out and do something. almost always family

Unless we specifically talk about her getting paid extra to clean I would only expect them to take care of the kids. If they make a huge mess I would expect her to have them clean it up.

Hi ya samtaylorskykierajen If it is just an evening babysitter for just a few hours then I wouldn't expect her to do much. Just make sure the kids brushed their teeth and visit the bathroom before going to bed. If they have made a mess with their toys then I will tidy them in the morning. If I paid a babysitter all day I would expect her to feed the children and wash the dishes after. Whatever toys she and the children had got out then they should all put them away. I would expect her to call me if my kids are running a temperature and give them medicine but if it got worse then I would come home. That's about it really.

I would expect them to play with my child, give medicine if needed, and clean up any mess that the child or the sitter made. I wouldn't expect her to go clean my bathroom or mop or anything. If she did that then I would pay more money for helping. I had a sitter who was getting ready to have a baby, she happened to be my SIL and I asked her if she would be able to handle my daughter with the baby. She said oh yeah shes easy to take care of, all she does is watch tv all day and eat. I quickly took her from there and put her into daycare.
