People in the United States--did you know that our roads have been sold?

Well, some of them anyway. Sold and leased to foreign countries. I never knew this until my Dad told me today when we were discussing stuff. I looked it up and it's true. Here's an excerpt from Infowars.com: "The Bush administration's plan to let a foreign company manage U.S. ports met a storm of protest in February. But plans to sell or lease highways to companies outside the United States have not met such resistance." Seems like more and more of our country is being sold to foreign interests. This is disturbing to me. I know the transportation department is bankrupt but isn't this a little extreme?! We taxpayers paid for those roads, they belong to us and nobody should be able to sell them or lease them without our okay. I don't remember voting for anything like this!

Do you mean that foreign companies are allowed to buy the rights to maintain and collect toll revenues on stretches of road? If that's the case, I don't find it so strange. Coming from Europe though, I guess I'm used to seeing 'foreign' input.

They wanted to sell our ports to Dubai a couple years ago but it was defeated. I find it strange and upsetting that we spend all that money building the roads and then lease or sell them. I can't believe we're getting any profits on them. My government seems determined to ruin this country. How's the farm? Been thinking about you lately what with the weather cooling down here and frost on the way. There's nothing sweeter than the smell of a cool barn in the winter, loaded with cows awaiting their breakfast!

Just pour some water through your coffee maker over the old grounds--that's what we'll all be doing soon. I hate the government. They're stupid and secretive and if anyone thinks we have a democracy, they're misinformed. At least dictatorships are upfront about it. Our government tries to make us think we have a say. Hey, I like your bunny!

Me either!! It sounds like we are owned by the foreign countries, especially if they come after us for our debts.

If the debts were called in, we'd all be in big trouble--except Bush and a few others who sold us down the river.

welcome to the third world bro, where everything is being sold. At least they are making it slow... killing you softly :)an American friend of mine told me the other day that US is like Rome in her last days. True, if your Government continue what they are doing now, then you will wake up one day alienated from your own land. Believe me, I know how it feels. Philippines was one of the rich countries in Asia 40 years ago, one of the reason why there were so many nations who conquered us because of our natural wealth. Many people sacrificed their lives for the call of freedom but this freedom was wasted and thrown to wastebasket by these corrupt officials running our country. Don't tell me that we just stare at the government doing nothing no... to this day, there are so many political killings in every province and every region. Resistance movements are on its peak waging war against the government, every 10 years, we're having our own local revolution, we toppled 2 government leaderships (Marcos & Estrada) but to no avail, we're still in the mud.

I have some faint hope that this latest debacle might spark a revolution but I kinda doubt it. As long as the people have their 500 channels of crap and a six pack, they'll gripe but not do anything.

I do know some of our toll roads here in Texas are run by Mexico..so why are we still paying taxes if they own them???

That's what I'd like to know. If they're no longer ours then they don't need our taxes, right? The government acts like a young kid with his first credit card than expects us to pay the bill. I'm really, really sick of it, what with the bailouts and all--the gov't certainly wouldn't help me if I made bad judgements like Wall Street has!

This country is going to hell in a handbasket! I've noticed the downfall taking a dramatically rapid turn just in the past few years. (Something to do with the Bush administration, you think???) Yes, this country is in a rapid decline. I'm just glad to hear the news last night that AIG will NOT be bailed out at over $1 billion! If ANYONE needs government assistance these days, it's us, the citizens. I received an email recently about what SHOULD be done with that bailout money... give it to every citizen over the age of 18. That would give us all about $250,000.00; plenty to get us all out of debt, pay off our homes and put some aside for retirement. Of course, that'll never happen. If our government even CONSIDERED giving money to an insurance company to help them, they'd NEVER think of giving any money to it's citizens. Yeah, the Bush administration has hurt this country badly... probably beyond repair. My late step-father, who was a DIEHARD republican, absolutely DESPISED Bush! I'm afraid for the future of our country. It sucks now on so many levels and it's only getting worse. For quite some time now, foreigners have been able to come to the U.S., get low-interest or free business loans to start up their own businesses and not have to pay taxes for 7 years. The smarter foreigners have figured out a way to NEVER pay taxes; they 'sell' their business to a family member, also a foreigner, and don't have to pay taxes for ANOTHER 7 years. This could go on indefinitely! Haven't you ever wondered why there are so many Oriental, Indian or other foreigners owning and running the 7-Elevens, Mini-mart gas stations, etc.? They're making a FORTUNE by not paying any taxes! The United States seems to be just like the moon. There's actually someone selling 'parcels' of the moon to people stupid enough to buy them! I honestly can't see how this is legal, since no one owns the moon to be able to sell parts of it. I guess President Bush sees the U.S. just as this man sees the moon... something to sell to the highest bidder, even though it's not his to sell. I plan on doing some traveling to other countries in the near future. I've always wanted to travel but, now, seeing how bad this country is becoming, I'm going to be looking at these other countries as a possible place to relocate. I have no patriotism left for this country that I was born in. I never put up a flag anymore. I don't even vote. I refuse to choose between 'bad' and 'worse'. I'd rather have my vote counted as no vote at all. Before they sell US to foreigners as slaves, I'm bailing out. I'm tired of fighting to keep our independence here. If the government is sabbotaging our efforts, why bother?

You know, if countries would manage their money like we people manage ours they wouldn't have to sell off their assets!
