This poem was written by an African kid and nominated as the best poem by America. When I born, I black. When I grow up, I black. When I go in Sun, I black. When I scared, I black. When I sick, I black. And when I die, I still black. And you white fellow When you born, you pink. When you grow up, you white. When you go in sun, you red. When you cold, you blue. When you scared, you pale. When you jealous, you green. And when you die, you gray. And you calling me colored??

I really dont know the age of the kid, but its the amazing ability of the kid to bring out the truth without fear or favor which got him this prize. As they say, truth from a babes mouth. thanks.

I am not sure why this is released now, as I heard a speaker say the very same lines at Hyde Park in 1993

LOL. This is too funny also. This is exactly right. I know people have been called colored for a very long time but some good points are made here for sure.

Yes steph, it tickled my funny bone and felt it necessary to let all my friends here at mylot read this. Its not only funny, but also eye opening. Wish we all could forget discriminatin of basis of colour, caste, religion. The world would be a better place to live in.

I too am totally against any form of discrimination, so I was really pleased to read this poem out of a babes m outh. Truth comes out from children without fear or favour and I salute this child for being so forthright and open.

This was the poem which i received just a 2 days back frommy friend and i read it here again..life is small and internet is the fastest mode of communication... Children often seem to know such truths instinctively, yet many adults spend their lives refuting them. You are right, we need to listen to our children more and respect the wisdom that comes with innocence.

Wish we adults were more mature, both black and white. Then this sort of discrimination would never arise. A child would never feel he is coloured black or white. Its high time we g rew up.

Its amazing how little children can bring out the truth without fear or favour. No wonder he got the best prize for the poem. Thanks.
