I would have to change my drawers if I met this beast! Quote"The downloaded pictures are of a man who works for the US Forest Service in Alaska and the bear he had to kill. (killed in self defense). He was out deer hunting last week when a large grizzly bear charged him from about 50 yards away. The guy emptied his 7mm Magnum semi-automatic rifle into the bear and it dropped a few feet from him. The big bear was still alive so he reloaded and shot it several times in the head. The bear was just over one thousand six hundred pounds. It stood 12' 6" high at the shoulder, 14' to the top of his head. It's the largest grizzly bear ever recorded in the world. Of course, the Alaska Fish and Wildlife Commission did not let him keep it as a trophy, but the bear will be stuffed and mounted, and placed on display at the Anchorage airport to remind tourists of the risks involved when in the wild. Based on the contents of the bears stomach, the Fish and Wildlife Commission established the bear had killed at least two humans in the past 72 hours including a missing hiker The US Forest Service, backtracking from where the bear had originated, found the hiker's 38-caliber pistol emptied. Not far from the pistol were the remains of the hiker. The other body has not been found. Although the hiker fired six shots and managed to hit the grizzly with four shots (the Service ultimately found four 38 caliber slugs along with twelve 7mm slugs inside the bear's dead body), it only wounded the bear and probably angered it immensely. The bear killed the hiker an estimated two days prior to the bear's own death by the gun of the Forest Service worker. Think about this : If you are an average size man; You would be level with the bear's navel when he stood upright. The bear would look you in the eye when it walked on all fours! To give additional perspective, consider that this particular bear, standing on its hind legs, could walk up to an average single story house and look over the roof, or walk up to a two story house and look in the bedroom windows. They have a really large stuffed grizzly in the Sheel's sporting goods store in Fargo, and I was just thinking the other day when were in there, that would be a pretty scary thing to meet up with out in the woods - and it's not near as big as the one you mention!

Yikes!!! He is so lucky to be alive. And that he did the right thing. I am not sure people who don't work there would react as quickly or as well, as proven by the poor hiker! Scary and sad.

Oh my. That is a very tall person. I think I would run for my life if I have came into contact with someone that tall. I would be afraid to be stepped on LOL.

WOW! There was a large stuffed grizzly on display in Fairbanks, Alaska at a restaurant called THE PUMP HOUSE. I don't even know if the restaurant is still there, as it has been over ten years since I was there, but I remember how small I felt standing there in front of that thing. I am close to 6-feet tall and weigh about 250 pounds, so I am not a small dude. I was not quite as big then as I am now, but that thing was still HUGE compared to me. I think the writing on the display said that it stood about 9-10 feet tall and weighed like 1100 pounds. Now the bear in your pic here stands 5-6 feet TALLER than the bear I saw on display, which would basically equal a person of my height standing on the shoulders of the bear I saw, not to mention the bear in this pic outweighs the one I saw by about 500 pounds if my memory of the detail on the display were correct. I remember noticing that the front paws on the bear I saw were about the size of a regular baseball glove. This one would probably have paws about the size of a catcher's mitt I am guessing. It would be interesting to see a picture of the bear's front paw with a catcher's mitt laying next to it to give the paw some scale. This bear could easily take your head off with one swipe of that front paw. One good swing and your head would probably look like a basketball bouncing down the trail. I am sad that those people were killed, and that the bear had to die, but this is an AWESOME find...very interesting. It would almost be worth a flight to Anchorage just to see this thing when they get it in place at the airport...

This is the reason I put my foot down on bear hunting, elk, moose, deer ok, but no bear. Even the little guys, black bear, are tough I can't imigine one this size. I just don't want to be around them at all.
