I am from india and the power situation here in punjab is dismal. We are experiencing power cuts of more than six hours a day in cities and the cuts in rural areas are much more. The industry is facing power cuts ranging to 48 hours a week and daily peak loads of 3 hours a day. This is leading to heavy losses to industry and loss of employment to individuals.Trying to run mills on gensets is too costy and eats away the profit of the organisation. Hardly any steps have been taken by the regional govt to bridge the gap between demand and supply. The nuclear deal now comes as a ray of hope but the power generation cost is high. Whats the situation at your end? Is the govt making concrete steps to provide basic facilities to the industry to remain competitive?

Well in my place too power cut is big problem. Due to this heavy power cut, we have to take an inverter to do our daily work. In our state government is giving free power to farmers and this is creating a lot of shortage to urban areas. Yeah you are right nuclear deal might help our country from power cuts but prices will be high. In our country power can be saved if many people adopt Solar energy producing gadgets is used like water heating, etc. Longest session do Indians face is summer, so, no shortage of sun rays and in this way atleast some power can be saved. But government have to promote solar equipment with less prices and mostly this service will help the farmers and domestic places in urban and rural areas. I hope this development comes soon to every house of the country with less prices.. Hope for the best.. :)

Hi limcy, I am from New Delhi the capital of India. Power situation is very satisfactory here as we hardly ever have cuts these days and when the summer was at its peak and demand for power maximum we never had cuts more than one hour twice a day, which invertors would make life easier. The situation has improved a lot in last few years since the Govt. has privatised the electricity board otherwise before than 8 to 10 hours a day was a normal thing and i remember when i was kid we would go to roof of society to sleep as there was no power at home and even up there it was so hot.

I wonder why that happens in parts of the world. Here in North America (more specifically Ontario Canada) and in the USA, there are no problems of that kind at all. I wonder why it would happen in your area. I hear about this on the news quite often, and in this day and age it doesn't make sense to me at all.
