With the global banks falling, investment bankers seriously thinking of a profession change and the world economy tumbling miserably, do you think the online banks like Paypal, Money bookers, e-gold, google adsense.....are in danger of falling as well?
Why and why not?

In the longer run, possibly; but because sites such as these deal in high volume, low amount transactions mainly I don't see there being any slowdown int the immediate future at all. If anything, the lower cost options these service providers offer will become more attractive and transactions will actually increase. These types of services do not answer to the same forces as a standard bank would either, so the effects of market influences that traumatize major banks and financial institutions are unlikely to have much of an impact on the PayPals etc of this world in my opinion.
Another important aspect to consider is that online financial services providers are not tied up with huge amounts of money from single sources like the merchant and investment banks are. When you have managed to spread and diversify the transactions into micro payments like these providers have done you in turn spread and mitigate the risks considerably. Their operational costs are far less as well.

That makes much sense. Even I feel these sites are in less danger than major banks.
"What is amazing is that none of this is recognized by the banks. They know precisely how much money a customer deposits with them, but they have no concept of the total purse a customer might have."
I think online banks are possibly at lower risk since its large;y based o micro payments and the less is diversified.
Thanks.

I never attach to much importance to the online earnings. Because it is not safe to say that our earnings are secure, until the virtual cash is converted in to the real one, after clearing all the hurdles in between.
So their are many a chances for us to lose our money, other than the chances of online banks becoming bankrupt.
PS: I just thought how my friends here are doing, so i decided to peep for a second here in mylot, and that's it. Take care Mimpi.

Thanks venkat for dropping in. Hope you are doing well.
I am here talking about online banks and even though its not that popular in our country they are quite popular in US. And its not just that our virtual earnings get deposited there. My brother has had transferred some USD to my paypal account for easy withdrawal.
I think online banks are possibly at lower risk since its largely based on micro payments and the less is diversified.
Thanks.
PS: Thanks for your lovely comments on AC.

Thank you, i usually once in a while drop in to your page in AC, and read the articles.. It gives me a lot of satisfaction, but as you know that i am that much adept in various subjects as you write there, and i fear that i may be commenting something irrelevant to the core. So i refrain from making comments in your Page. But this time i did, gathered some courage in some form or the other and commented thereon.
Take care friend.

Hello mimpi. When I think of this, I feel a little bit scared about it. But I am still full of confidence about these online banks like Paypal and such. They are just online banks and probably they are a safe place for us? Well, I hope so otherwise I will never be able to use the earnings I have got from mylot. In fact, I have not used a single cent out of it, but I invested six dollars at an Indian online bank and have already generated close to 20 dollars after a few months. It is fun on my side when I see the cents grow day by day. I hope that nothing will influence the online banks because of the global recession. Bless us users with those online banks and offline banks as well. Good luck to you, to me and to us all.

That's so good to hear. Paypal has been wonderful with me so far and even I have cashed out some dollars. But which online Indian Bank are you talking about? It sounds interesting. Could you share?

I do not have much idea about online banking portals like Paypal. I think these are only services for making payments. These on-line payment services should not be equated with banks. Banks crumbling in USA etc. should not have much effect on these kind of payment sites, this is what I understand. We are sitting miles apart, if something has to happen to these kind of on-line services, it will happen, we cannot prevent it.

There is certainly less chances of falling but sure it could get affected. Without proper support from major banks this largely depends on micro bankings and adverts. So, its less likely to tumble.
Thanks.

I think the economy is like a Ferris Wheel. It goes up and it goes down. Both individuals and financial institutions need to have a grasp of this simple truth and plan accordingly. If they do, they weather the downs and live to see the ups. If they live for the moment, then when the economies tumble they tumble with them. It is all a matter of taking personal and corporate responsibility. Therefore, one program may survive while another fails.

Yes, what goes up must come down and economy is largely based on this. People who were going overboard with exuberance to invest money without second thoughts would learn a lesson. It would make them wise. Good for them in the long run.

Hi Mimipi, With PayPal and the like they don't lend people money so I think they will probably be okay but to be quite honest I haven't a clue really but I don't think people will go back to hiding money under mattresses either. Sad situation really. Huggles. Ellie :D

I don't really have an opinion on this one since I only started using Paypal when I joined myLot and that pretty much sums up my knowledge on online banks. But I'm glad you started this discussion so I could read what others who are more knowledgeable (I hope they are) on this subject have to say.
