I am an independent traveler. My top five things I like to do are meet the local people, see the native wildlife, explore the history, find out about the culture and visit tropical beaches. The five sorts of places that I like to go to are coastlines, islands, hot places, mountains and rain forests. The five types of accommodation that I like are locally owned guest houses, tree houses, beach huts, my own tent and castles. I have been lucky enough to stay in a tall tree house in Belize and in a thatched beach hut in Mexico on a palm fringed beach. I liked staying in a castle that is a youth hostel in Germany.

I am a solo traveller my friend, I prefer to travel to countries on my own that way I can do what I like, when I like and have the freedom to roam and enjoy the experience on my own. I prefer to have package tours where I get a nice room in a hotel with en suite as I like my home comforts too much! It may be more expensive but I think when you get to travel it's a life time experience which should be memorable and comfortable. I am not that much of an adventurer, like I won't go into the ocean but I like to explore, like when I went to Rhodes, I got a guided coach tour around the island so that I didn't miss out on anything, plus you get a tour guide as well to tell you all about the island, it's history etc that way you find out much much more than doing it solo.

Single supplements can be a problem with a package deal when you travel in that way my friend. I have really enjoyed traveling on my own in the past. These days I travel with my toddler son. I remember nights in unusual accommodation much more than I do places like the fancy hotel on the beach in Kenya. I stayed on a flat roof in Jordan and woke up to the sound of dogs barking. Yes, a coach tour that mentions the history of the destination is well worth doing my friend Wolfie. I am glad that you had an enjoyable time in Rhodes.

U have a wonderful life ^_^ I like the way u lived your life and spending your time exploring and around ^_^ how i wish i can be like u too ^_^ YOur thoughts and the things that u have done and experience, are all what i've been wanting to do.. It seems like we think alike ^_^ hehe
I'm thinking to back-pack one day ^_^ Walking to all around the world, explore their culture, tasting their lifestyle, sharing their experiences, learning from their attitude as well as get closer to all the natures around me ^_^ That's my dream ^_^ I dun really go for luxury life, i will prefer a simple and rugged life.. hehe ^_^ I find myself more suitable for that kinda life, and i wanna do it ^_^
Glad that u shared your experiences here, and i know that i'm not the only one here ^_^ hehe =D

I think that you would make the ideal backpacker. I was one of those once staying in youth hostels and getting a working holiday visa. I think that you would like to meet different cultures and try out the local language. You would value getting closer to nature and enjoy sharing experiences with the local people as well as other travelers. I hope that you will explore some different countries. Good luck.

I am similar to what you are. I love to hang out with locals at the local places. I much prefer bed and breakfast places because you are in homes and get to have the greatest conversations with owners! I am not a camper or outdoors person as you are though, but have traveled quite extensively over the years, and loved every minute of it. Such wonderful memories and interesting people and places!! PS I LOVE castles, aren't they the greatest! I even staying in an old church that was rented to travelers in Europe once. Wonderful!

I am an independent traveller. I like to arrange everything myself and that way I get exactly the trip I want. A package trip is often cheaper, but I dislike having things arranged for me. I want challenges and I want to solve problems on my own. My first priority is to meet the local people and learn more about the culture. I also like to learn some of the local language. My favourite type of accomodation is B&B. I don't like to live in big fancy hotels with lots of international guests. I want to spend as much time with the local people as I possibly can.

We don't travel out of the country much. But when my husband and I want to go on vacation, we like to take long walks and/or rent a car to drive around town and watch the scenery when we do arrive. We both like to experience the native feeling of being around locales from doing regular things like washing our laundry to eating at a local restaurant to seeing how diverse the place is with business and such.
We both enjoy it better if we can quietly blend in and go when we want. We're happy with ample accommodations like water, electricity and a bed to sleep, most preferably a kitchen to cook. A motel is fine since we pack light and don't really carry much.

i do not like to have an agenda when i travel. i like an idea of what i want to see and do buti do not want a schedule as vacations are supposed to be relaxing. i also do not fly so i have to drive wherever it is i am going. to be honest we are not going to be traveling much any time in the near future as we just cannot afford it. we are trying to pay off our credit cards so we will not use them for travel as we have in the past.

Wow that's some pretty crazy traveling you've done. I've only stayed on cruises, and in fancy resorts or hotels. I guess i like the comfort of knowing that there's a security blanket around my stuff while i'm exploring wherever i may be. It's not that i don't trust the locals of wherever i am but my stuff is my stuff and i want to keep it that way. I've had way too much stuff stolen from me in the past i guess. I would love to do that kind of thing though because it sounds very intriguing.

Package tourist due to not much money and my never-ending ability to get lost. But I like history, culture, meeting the local people, and culture.
I like water, festivals, food, dancing, Music, demonstrations of fighting styles as long as not full contactor or head protection-no one gets killed. Temples, tipis (teepees), pow wows and gathering plants for food. I like restaurants, orchards, etc.
I have not been to a cheese plant and would like to. I have not been where they make perfume (not sure if I would be alright or not due to allergies), but I think I would like to. I also like swimming, canoeing and islands.
I loved Alaska, food, Tlingit (pronounced kling git) dancing, Russian Dancing, Tlingit cook out with salmon. Also saw a traditional home. Berries grow really, really big up there.
I would like to go to Hawaii. Hawaiian dances, food, luaus, their boats, swimming. Lots of islands, one produces pineapple and I love pineapple.

I am a package tourist. Maybe because we always have the kids with us. Everything must be in order. If abroad,a travel agency takes care ofthe accomodation like when we went to Bangkok,Singapore,Malaysia,Hongkong-in Indonesia,we stayed with my sister in law.but we dont go for the tour unless it is really practical. Most of the time we go around on our own except when it is very expensive to go to a place alone or by fours. We
But if we go around the Philippines,my husband usually had previously been there so more or less he had checked the accomodation. There are times too that we just try to explore, like when we went to Bohol and Camiguin Island. It was hard though with the kids. We had to look for a nice place with good airconditioner and toilets,so we ended up in hotels.expensive. we never tried staying in guest houses.I will consider trying.I think in Boracay, residents there offer their houses to tourists for reasonable price. I prefer to stay in a nice hotel there,so I could enjoy to the fullest without having to deal with the landlords.
My sister and her family have been all over Europe and USA,they have started using their time share so accomodation is very easy. The time share we got can still be used in 2 years since we got the deferred payment plan.We were given free accomodations though in Bali.
My sister and her family stayed in a castle too somewhere which was converted to a bed and breakfast.it was really very cool. They got scared and hold on to the kids all through out the night, they cant help thinking that a ghost might take the kids away.LOL
I would love to stay in tree houses.but I dont think my husband could climb.LOL.

I guess Im independant as well. I like a little of everything. I think I'd fit a lot of words, like I am the Poor Traveler who travels on a budget. I am the lazy traveler who likes to go at my own pace. I am spontaneous traveler who likes a good adventure, and now I am a Mommy Traveler, who has to go on a toddlers time table. Thanks for starting this discussion and happy mylotting.

I like to travel whether it's independent, package tourist or adventurer. I like to travel with my family. Our interests vary, from history, culture and beaches. We love to go to the beaches but we love to try out others too. I would love to stay in huts for a different experience from staying in hotels.
