the bible contains information about hell and what it is. the glooming scenario of the soul being tormented day and night are a picture though not seen by the naked eye and just an expression of our imagination makes people to be scared from hell. i have seen a movie clip, produced by one of the christian group here in the phiippines, but sorry i forgot the name of their fellowship center, anyway in the movie they explain about the reality and true existence of hell, and according to them there are people who made to go in hell and made by God to return back for them to share what the horrible things they have seen in hell. they also got some information about the drilling project somewhere in Europe who happen to dig so deep and eventually made a horrible discovery of what lies beneath and inside the earth we are living, according to the scientist that run the project, they were on the process of drilling when their tools who is far deep inside the earth do hit something hollow and it goes down very fast, so surprise what really happen they begin to pull up the drilling tool which is the hardest material that can stand a very high temperature heat and make a bore or a hole even on the hardest surface, but the tool was gone and melted away and what is left is the sign of the intense heat and smell of sulfur in the remains of the tool, and what is very shocking and hair rising is the sounds coming from the hole or the pit they bore and it sounds like someone crying in great pain or in torture, with shouts and anguish that when they use some sound detector by taking down avery sensitive microphone they find out the sounds are real voice of people crying in anguish,in pain and in torment in such a scale no man can number..is this hell beneath the earth we are living? how about you do you believe theres really a hell, and what is your opinion where it is now?

I think what you described might be where people got the idea of Hell to begin with. That particular notion of Hell has been around for ages and probably did not originate with the Hebrew literature.
For me, Hell is a place that is total and separate from God. It's where the enemies of God can do whatever it is they want to you and God will not save or help you in any fashion even if you beg for Him. You eventually cease to exist in this place because you need God to keep your soul alive, but you are totally separate from Him, so it can't.
