at any time of your school life? If you did then what was it like? Or was there a disco or an event thrown for you leaving school? Here in UK, it was disco's, they were OK, but nothing special really. I have seen programmes of how some places have a prom and it all looks so special with the dressing up and everything, so I would love to hear some Prom stories please? The school my son attended has been trying to have prom night instead of leaving disco but to be honest it just does not seem to work out somehow. My son refused point blank to go, said he was not wearing no suit!!

I live in the U.S. and we do have prom nights. Ours is our senior year in high school. The ladies get all dressed up in formal gowns and the guys wear tuxedos. We can either chose to go out for dinner on our own or in a group to a restaurant or, have dinner at the hall where the prom is held before the dance. I wore a peach colored dress...it was 1992. We danced and had lots of fun. There are frequently after prom parties but, none of my friends had one so, we all just went out for a late night snack. Then, the next day we went to the amuzement park and had fun there all day. It was one of my fondest memories from my days of high school.

I never got a chance to finish school as I got pregnant when I was 16 and couldn't go to school once my son was born when I was 17. So I only finished my grade 10 and didn't have a prom to go to. Our schools here in Canada, did prom nights for the students that graduated. They play whatever the music trend is at the time. Back in my day, although I didn't go to one, I know they played a lot of beatles and rolling stones songs. Oh yeah, and beach boys. And lots more. Yes, they get all dressed up for proms here and sometimes some of them travel by limo. They don't have to wear suits here if they don't want to. But it would still have to be dress pants, no jeans, and shirts with a tie, no t-shirts. The girls love to dresss up and wear gowns and beautiful dresses.

The prom nights always sound so nice, dressing up and going out with friends, a taste of being grown up.

I had a prom night my senior year of high school. It was not as fun as I had thought it would be. My date was not that great. He was actually mean and rude to me that night and it was ruined.

I am sorry to hear that, seems a shame you have such a bad memory of it.

Hi Gemini, Prom night, now way, I don't think we even had an end of school disco, maybe we did but was that uneventful I have forgotten about it. Here in the UK it has only recently been a thing anyway it is more American to have proms. My friends son had one recently and i cost her a fortune as the kids want limos the works. To be all a waste of time and money. This is just my opinion, I am sure there are many on here, especially from the States who have brilliant memories of their Prom and what they wore and who they went went. Huggles. Ellie :D

We had discos, I cannot remember mine either, so it must have been rubbish or something happened that I do not want to remember!!! I do think it is more an American thing, and it just does not work the same over here at all.

We do have our prom night. In my highschool years, i can't forget our prom night because it's just that all my dreams were come true. It's my first time to go out alone and have a party because my parents were so strict. During that night, after the ceremony, it's disco time. A lot of my friends and classmates wanted to dance with me. There is this certain guy who is courting me. He is 3rd year and i'm 4th year. What i hated about him that night is, he is guarding me to the other guys and he is not my boyfriend either. What i did is, i seek help to my bestfriend and i told her that we will hide from him so that he will stop guarding me. My bestfriend aggreed but what amaze me most is he still found out where we were hiding and he came to me and told me "if you don't like me, tell me", he went home and i never saw him in that night. I got guilty. I think, i'm too rude to him. When i saw him at school after the couple of days, i apologized to him and he accepted my apology.

Ahhh it sounds like you had fun, but that poor guy! At least you apologised to him though after, to tell you the truth I would have probably done the same as you.

Hi gemini, during my time it was very formal and we need to be in a dress and men should be in suit with a cotillion dance! but, later part of the night, teachers granted us to have some disco music! LOL! I had it during my Junior and Senior year!

I went to prom in my 6th form year and never really enjoyed it. I got my hair cut that afternoon and I don't know why I did it, but I asked for a short haircut and I looked terrible. My mum had my dress made which I didn't like (pink yuck hate pink) and even though I had a date to go with, I hung out with all my neighborhood friends, that was the only fun bit of the night! Wouldn't do that again though lol

In high school I was chosen as Ms. Alma Matter in our Junior Senior Prom. I had to deliver a speech and was freakin' terrified of making a mistake. Needless to say, I did not enjoy the party until the program was over. But when the time came to dance the night away, I sure did enjoy with the rest of my friends until about 3am. :=)

We have a prom night in my high school years. It’s called junior-senior prom night that all the junior and senior attended at the same time. Actually, I have attended two prom nights, one is my junior year and the other is my senior year in high school. My two prom nights are held in hotels. My junior prom nights require as wearing gowns for girls and suits for boys. I don’t really like to go in prom nights as I don’t think it is worth it to attend to but I did and I’m late for half an hour. The prom night is okay, though I like the idea of lightning small flashlights as candles are not allowed in the venue. It’s actually for the senior that will graduate and have to live our Alma matter. It’s kind of sentimental moment for everyone. In my senior year, it was not so sentimental. After the program is disco time. We have live band unlike in my junior year we only have sound system. The lead vocalist is cute so all the senior girls have a photo of him. My senior prom night is all about fun. When it’s time to dance our teachers lead the way to the dance floor as no one would want to dance. They grab senior students to dance and we the seniors grab the juniors to dance with us. Its fun especially seeing your teachers (that you hate) dancing. In the dance floor you can step the feet of your teachers without being obvious. Some of us seniors did that, its kind of payback for all the hard things they throw to us and a thank you one for all the learning’s they impart to us. My two prom nights are one of my memorable memories in high school.

i actually went to two proms. i went to a senior prom when i was a junior with an ex-boyfriend of mine and i went to my senior prom with my boyfriend who was also a senior. it was ok and i am glad i had the experience because you can never go back in time. i can say one thing though. they did not have the fancy dresses that they do now. i had a tough time find dresses for both proms.

we had a prom. but our schools prom is SO MUCH different from what i see on TV and stuff where its like a dance in the gym or ballroom. we normally rented out a place like a hotel ballroom or something and it was more like a banquet since there were tables and a buffet. the prom queen and king (and their court) was always selected beforehand and they sat at the front of the ballroom sometimes. there's games, picture taking and of course dancing. i didn't go to my prom though since i opted to work that night. i didn't get a boyfriend until after the tickets were sold which were around $100 and of course i couldn't afford it. at that time we had a lot of medical bills because of my dad and i knew that we didn't have much for me to splurg. so i worked and earned money. i stopped by a friends hotel party and everyone was just drunk. so i didn't end up staying long.

I had 3, actually. Well, only 1 was my prom -- which in most areas of the US is a big formal dance toward the end of your Senior year in high school (though I've heard of some schools doing a prom for each class every year). The other two proms I went to, were the year after I graduated. I was asked by friends to go with them. One was one of my best friends in school. The other was a co-worker that went to a different school than I did. Both were a lot of fun. Which makes up for the fact that my own was pretty lousy.

I do have one. It is really memorable because my crush then was my first dance. And he gave me a rose. But we did not really end up together. But it is okay, we are both happily married now.

We did have a prom. I always hated prom night. They have made it into something way to expensive for high school kids. Not to mention there are a lot of expectations for prom night. It makes it very tempting to skip the whole thing all together.

I only went to prom my senior year. I went with my current girlfriend of five months (who was not my girlfriend at the time, but we were both madly in love with each other and still are). I dressed up in a tuxedo, and her in a sparkly pink and black dress. I'm not the best dancer, and I wasn't going to try in the uncomfortable clothing, so I stayed away from most of the party music (usually rap; perhaps a little upbeat rock). One can't help oneself from the occassional train. But I took full advantage of every slow dance. It was, to me, the foundation of our relationship. Our first date, and what a sentimental and romantic date it was!
