Now that it is October, What is it About Fall That You like?

I so enjoy the fall season. Soon, I will be able to wear my sweaters, and start my hot chocolate outside in the mornings. And too - using my oven to bake more. I don't celebrate halloween, but prefer to celebrate the "Harvest" season, which takes in more than just one particular day of the month. So what do you enjoy about fall, and what are some things you do - drinks you drink at this time of the year - or foods that you eat at this time of the year?

I grew up in the midwest and loved fall. Sweaters, hot cider, apple crisp made with fresh apples off the tree and the smell of smoke in the air from fireplaces going. Unfortunatly now I'm in south Texas. (no offense fellow Texans) Down here October only means another month to have more hurricane chances, the temperature will now be in the high 80s or low 90s rather than over 100, and all those old northerners will now flock down here with their campers and trailers - causing traffic problems galore. LOL I am currently packing to move north again in a few months. I'm excited to have a change of seasons again and I can look forward to future fall leaves, cool days, and warm stew or chilli simmering on the stove.

Aww, I'm sorry that you have to live where you can't experience Fall! :( *hugs* Yes, chili and stew are WONDERFUL on fall days/nights! I hope you get to move north! I want you to be able to look forward to fall leaves, cool days, and warm stew or chili! I enjoy those things so much that I want everybody else to, too! Good luck to you! :)

In the UK we call it autumn and it's my favourite season of the year, because it is colourful with all the leaves changing colour and falling off the trees, the smell of bonfires burning and the cooler weather as I am not a hot weather person, the advent of Christmas around the corner and switching from salads which I eat in the Summer months to curries, sausages and roast dinners each Sunday! Then watching the spectacular firework displays around November 5th. I love this time of year for sure!

I like the pretty colors of the trees. Even tho I live in FL, we still get some of the colors. Just not as much as the North. I also like the cooler weather and wearing my pj's or my flannel shirt. Hot chocolate and hot oatmeal in the morning for breakfast is good too. I love chili when it's cold or raining.

Growing up in New England, this is a great season for all the senses for me. I love to look at the trees as they change, the sounds as you crunch along the path from the falling leaves, the crisp smell in the air, plus the scent of apple pies baking; the feel of fresh harvested foods, all those different textures; and of course, apples are a big part of the taste, especially cider!

Apples and apple crisp. Apples cider and hot chocolate too. I love the colors on the trees and love decorating my house with pumpkins and other fall related decorations! I like the jeans and sweatshirt weather because I really dread wearing coats. I really do love fall!

You seem to have your fall pretty much laid out. I am just looking out for the weeds in my farm. I have 7 people weeding and it seems to take forever. Being in the farm calms me down and I think of all the co2 that my plants are removing from the atmosphere. It makes me feel good. October is nice for me too. Cheers!!

Fun - Quality family time
Of course those beautiful colors is a favorite of mine, but I have to admit I love to watch as the families rake the leaves together in one big pile and the children laughing as they jump and play in the leaves.

That is fun, too. Jumping in leaves! I wish that we could all just jump in leaves and have fun, and not have to ever rake them! That'd be nice! :)

ClassyCat, In the fall, Autumn... I seem to get a restless feeling that sweeps over me. My home is in the middle of the woods in North Carolina, so I do get an awesome view of nature changing. Maybe it's like the song, Indian Summer by Poco... It's great to be able to enjoy my coffee outside and almost smell the seasonal changes. And, I'm starting my plans for an outside bon-fire / chicken stew / pig-picking / party... I love this time of the year! Oh, I don't get into any holiday other than Thanksgiving / the feast of weeks, and of course my Cherokee blood makes me proud then. Few people remember that unless the Indians had showed the "white man" what they could eat and how to survive, we wouldn't be here now!

Yes, a restless feeling. THAT is the word that I was looking for yesterday! Thanks! But, it's a good kind of restless! It's still kind of hard to explain! But, thanks for providing the word that I couldn't seem to be able to come up with yesterday! :)

i really dont like this season of shedding leaves, too windy and cold, sometimes showers and rain, and cloudy and foggy. its really too dull and going outside is difficult with the wind and i really dont enjoy going out as it is wet and windy and really it irritates and it makes be more difficult to manage with my son. and this change of weather is prone to diseases and make us sick and ill and it really pains and makes me upset. at this point of time itself it is so cold and i have already started using heaters. whenever we go out warm clothings become necessary and it is too much of work and not comfortable clothing. now i every evening try to prepare something spicy and hot as my husband comes from his office and it is cold outside and i can give him somthing hot. everytime there is a feeling of cold and hence it is so boring and when you just peep outside the window it is so dirty outside as the leaves scttered down and also wet.

Well, I'm sorry that you don't like those things. :( *hugs* I understand that Fall is not *perfect*. But it still beats the other seasons, IMHO. But, I understand your reasons for not liking it.

I LOVE fall! It is the best! Cooler, but not COLD, weather! Being able to wear sweaters again, but not necessarily all the time. Being able to take a walk and enjoy it! It's too hot to walk in the summer! Fall is PERFECT for walking! It just fits my mood! I think I feel ALIVE in the fall! And of course Halloween candy! Even if you don't celebrate Halloween, you can still enjoy the candy! *LOL* You can ALWAYS enjoy candy! I am not even sure what it is about the cooler weather. It does something to my mood. I want it to never end. September, October, and November are the best months. And sometimes there are festivals, like Fall Festivals, Crafts Festivals, etc. Fall is always the best time for things like that! Winter is too cold and dreary. Summer is too hot and dreary. Spring is nice, but it means that summer is nearby. *LOL* Fall is the best! And there are probably other reasons that I cannot even think of right now. Like being able to eat chili and rice, and corn bread and potato soup, and things like that! *LOL* But, it is mostly the cooler weather and whatever it is that that does to my mood. I have never been completely able to describe it or explain it. It just IS. Maybe somebody else here knows what I mean? Anyway, Happy Fall! :-)

This really is my favorite time of year. I think it is more beautiful than spring. This weekend my husband and I are driving up to Vermont to see the leaves. they call it "Leaf peeping season" up there. I love the colors, the warm but not hot weather. Here on LI it does not get really cold until late November.

Autumn view - A beautiful photo of an autumn view.
I really enjoy this time of year. The beautiful scenery of the trees and the like. I also like to get a pumpkin if I can and I do like to see other people's decorations. I enjoy drinking more hot things like hot chocolate or something like that. I guess you could call it the "Harvest"season. That is a nice word for it. And of course it is a little more comfortable to cook!
