Manhunt

We are currently experiencing a manhunt in Missouri. Five schools are closed and checkpoints set up to search all cars driving through the area. The police are searching for a person of interest who possibly murdered a 12 yr. old in another state. One of our kids doesn't live far from the area where they are searching. Do you alert other friends and family members when a situation of this nature is happening in your area and do you worry?

Yes, I do alert friends and relatives because many don't watch local TV news, many don't listen to local radio stations and most don't get the local paper, they think it's too expensive. So they don't know anything that's going on locally, nationally, yes, down the street, no. They have neighbors die and don't know. So a manhunt, I'm sure they could have the guy walk into their house 4 days after the anouncement and still not know if I didn't tell them. Yes, I worry. But usually the guy is found in an abandoned building. Usually people report stolen clothes off their clothesline and that is one clue or stolen car. Take care, remember, the likelihood that they'll be out where anyone can see them very much is not very good. Hope everyone has their cars and doors locked. (another reason I'd have to tell them, they wouldn't) Thanks and take care.

I live in St. Louis. This guy was in O'Fallon which is about 20 miles from us. I knew it wasn't in our immediate area. They caught him and he's in jail. It was scarey there for awhile. Those poor people that lived in the area were so frightened. Glad it's over. Where in Missouri are you? Thanks for responding.

Oh yes! And I owned a scanner for one night! THat night a woman was killed in her house in Burnsville MN....not too far from my brothers...I listened to the scanner while they were tracking the vehicle heading down my way......I was scared spitless! Anyway I called and my brother wasn't home....so not to worry but I took that scanner and unplugged it and that was the end of that....I was sick all night with worry!

You only owned a scanner for one night? I do have one and listen on a fairly regular basis. Can hear all the "dirt" that's happening in our area. I only get concerned when someone is on the loose who has murdered another person or something of that nature. Thanks for responding.

That one night thing is familiar. My brother had a scanner for a couple of weeks. The night they heard the ambulance called out to his mother-in-laws house is the last night it was on. Eventually they just got rid of it as it had turned into a paperweight.

Hi carol,
How scary for you and all your neighbors and friends. I absolutely would alert my friends and family. I would think that the news is state ide but not all people listen to the news. Besides, some people don't take situations like this as a serious threat to themselves. Why? Good question. I know people like that. Unless the violence affects them personally, they feel unattached. We should all be aware for ourselves and those around us. Be careful and take care of you and yours.

Swat team just caught him. He was arrested for first degree murder of the little boy. Nobody else was hurt. Am glad this is over with and the day continues on as usual. This incident didn't happen in our immediate neighborhood but still gives me reason for concern. I am an avid news watcher so I don't miss much! Thanks for resp0onding.

I have never experienced something like this before carolbee but it sounds like it would be very stressful! If a person is capable of murdering someone then they will stop at nothing to get away from the Police. I am not sure what I would do myself actually. Maybe I would consider it time to go overseas for a couple of weeks holiday? lol. I would be very nervous though, no question and I would probably jump at every noise until they left the area.

This guy is loose but not in our immediate area. He's much closer to the area where one of our kids lives. She probably has the news on already and is well aware of what's happening. Just hope she's cautious until they get him.
You have a great idea to vacation and get away. Thanks for responding.

That happened last year when my daughter and I were at the doctor's office. And we ended up locked inside the office with the staff until the alert was over! It was pretty scary...it was pretty much the same thing as what is going on where you are. I called everyone I knew to let them know to stay home. I was beyond scared until the guy was caught.

How sad and I sure do hope they find the person especially if he is the one who commited the murder of the child. We have had man hunts around but nothing real close out here where I live, usually if there is one around here the people are already across the border in Mexico.

I think it's only natural for you to worry. I've experienced that situation and my kid's school was in a lockdown, but actually I realized that they were safe and that it was the safest place for them to be at that moment. Sometimes the police take extra precautions which are more a waste of time and money, but I appreciate the extra efforts to keep our children safe and it is certainly worth a little inconvenience on my part. As long as my kids are secured I'd keep the worrying to a minium. Hope its over soon!

It happens in Trinidad in the depressed districts and the country areas.
Its not considered as big a deal as abroad, there are so many loose criminals in Trinidad it would be too much to do things your way over here.
Basically they look and then stop after a while.

Ofcourse! We always let friends and family know of anything like this going on in a given area. I think- what if they just happened not to hear the news today or something like this. My kids are updated all the time on how to act with stangers.

Our kids are adults but wanted to make sure they heard the news. They got the guy and he is awaiting trial for the murders of two people in another state. Can't be too careful when it comes to this kind of situation. Thanks for responding.

I always alert all my family and friends when situation like this will happen. I worry and i easily freak out when i heard news of criminal on the lost. I always dont have enough sleep and cautious at all times because of fear that it might be living around our area. It is scary when it happen to a place where you live.

The guy was captured about an hour ago. The police were able to track him through the "pings" on his cell phone. I was in touch with our daughter and she was in touch with her close friend where this guy was hanging around. Thanks for responding.
