Why do students prefer playing computer games instead of playing in the yard?

When I was their age I preferred playing football with my mates instead of staying on the computer. Ok. Computers were still at their initial stage. Why do students prefer staying in a computer lab playing computer games instead of playing team games?

Maybe because the parents back then was always shooing them out of the house to go play and they didn't have such addictive games like they do now days. Maybe a little bit more outside shooing should be done so that kids can experience instead of living it through a game.

I think it's because computers are now and challenging to them. They're so different from anything that anyone else has ever had, that they want to use them instead of doing what is natural.

I think the people who play computer games are not the type of people who would have enjoyed team sports to begin with. I know I never liked team sports myself. My brother has a great t-shirt that says, "I went outside once, the graphics were horrible."

Because all their lives their parents have used the tv and video games as babysitters to get the kids out of their hair so they don't have to parent. Those kids think fun is sitting on their butt in front of a screen. Poor things, they don't know what they're missing! And neither do their parents, they've missed many precious moments they can never, ever take back.

If I would have to analyze from my days when I was younger I always have an outdoor activity because the computer is not yet booming on that time and at this time that all of the technology arises and the crime from outside world is too much so I think I would prefer my children do a limitation to do the outdoor activities rather than having an indoor like computer games in which I am so sure that I could manage them properly and see them on what are the things they are doing....

I know dozens of youngsters who are addicted to the games and of course some electronic thing to play them all So very simple it is very difficult to kick the habit and get rid of the addiction When i was a teenager i indeed was involved in outdoor activities but that was because there was no computer but TV was making the scene Also playing team skills needs a little ability and so many realize they are not up to team sports so why not the PC Good Luck

Because they are now in new generation & they can play all kind of games in the computer lot like in our generation it so memorable when we play with our neighbor friends in our yard, climing trees sharing together all kind of games to have more fun.

Well who said that. Most people here still prefer to play in the mud and sweat themselves out each day. I'm an avid video game player. I'm also an avid basketball player. And I find it hard to manage time to do both of them. games and sports are a relief to the mind and playing them usually helps one to keep cool and relaxes. The other reason is that acceptance. I have noticed that sometimes when I walk into an unknown court to play basketball people do not accept me directly. Most people are scared that they will be hurt and that would spoil their life. That's a reason they do not like to play. Instead they like to play in the computer because, a computer game is made in such a way that you can beat a level, but in real time sports the scenario keeps changing and its tough and sometimes people get frustrated because they are losing. bourne

i like to see kids playing outside & just being children. we stayed out till bedtime if we were allowed to. parents don't let children be children anymore. they push them to do older things.

That is a sad reality. The youth of today have been addicted to compute games and they have been missing the benefits and beauty of outdoor games. Computer games are addictive. It okay if it is like myLot where we earn money and gaining a lot of other benefits but computer games are not. They are mind pollutants in fact and gives no benefits.

ok so im probably going to get heck for this but its because parents will not put their foot down today. my mom made me go out to play instead of being tied to the tv and once i got out there, she had to make me come back in kids and a lot of parents are just lazy today

Hi ronaldinu, Kid loves to be on their computers now days as they are the lazy generation, thy don't like to run around and be competitive as there are no winners, even if you lose they are told there are no losers everyone a winner, so what is the point wasting your energy when eveboby wins, it was different in our days we all want to win and losers end up in tears, so they try harder and wins next, kids just con't be bothered and become lazy and computers are the things for them. Computer is still a fascination. Youngsters are addicted to games and surfing. If there is no one to guide them to have outdoor games, they will sit in front of computers. Teenagers require guidance. At your age if computer was popular and no one for guiding you to outdoor games, you would have been also doing so.

Most people prefer video games or computer games to actual playing outside due to the facts that in computer games, one can be anyone or anything that you want to be without getting hurt or being ridiculed by others that are stronger and fitter... For example, if you do not really know how to play soccer, people might laugh at you if you play the real game on the field but who is going to laugh at you when you are playing it on the computer. In fact you can be a star on the computer. That's what I think. Cheers!

In my place, backyards or playgrounds are not common anymore since every available space is occupied by a house or a court. There was a research about why youngsters today is involved in computer games and not in active play. According to it, the reason they prefer computer games because kids today are not active anymore and don't want to loose some sweat. Also, having things with a touch of technology produces idle generation.

Kids have too many choices these days and it's up to the parents to take control and make sure that their kids get outside and get some exercise. My grandson and my nephew's boy, who both live nearby, stopped by yesterday to ask if they could play the Spongebob game I have for the playstation but it was a lovely day so I suggested that they play outside and come back after dinner to play the game. They ended up riding bikes. It's too easy sometimes to just let kids do what they want but they need to ineract with other kids and to be creative on their own, not just depending on games for entertainment.

Hello there ronaldinu I am really not sure of this but since we got the trampoline my kids have spent most of their time on it outside even when it has been wet and come in soaked but I don't mind doing the extra washing if it means they are keeping away from the tv and computer games!
