Pragnancy and chemicals

I am almost 14 weeks pregnant and refuse to use any chemicals in my life. I learned that I was pregnant when I was only few days late and that would have been when I was less than 4 weeks pregnant and after that I started living much healthier life and stoped using chemicals. Now everyone thinks I am crazy. As I dont drink a lot of water (cant stand the taste) my skin is dry and I am told by friends and family dont worry put some cream on. Now that is all fine but is there a great reason for that. when you have a look what most creams contain and how fast that can go into our body is scary. I even got an organic cream and that one has things not recomended to pregnant women. We get so much chemicals into our body as it is I am sure that if I dont use tablets and creams for 9 months I would survive. What is your opinion on this?

Like pkristie said, try using baby lotion. I use baby lotion all the time just because it's the best lotion to use on my skin. It is safe to use on baby anyway and shouldn't hurt. I wouldn't worry too much either. You have to take care of yourself just as much as taking care of your baby. If you can't take care of yourself and stay healthy, that will be unhealthy for your baby. Don't feel bad though because I used to be the same way with my first baby too. I was always asking my doctor if this was okay to use or if that was okay to use. When it came to personal products, the only thing I can ever remember being told not do was color my hair. If you have a cat or dog, you shouldn't clean up the litter box or clean up your dog's messes. I was more concerned with cleaning supplies than anything and those products made me feel sick anyway. My husband used to do most of the cleaning those days. It was good for him...LOL! Now they make "green" cleaning products which they didn't have at the time. So try to relax and not too worry to much. If you have any questions about anything that your concerned about, talk to your doctor about them. Congrats on the new baby and take care!

This is my second child and I was careful with the firs one but not as much. The reason I am stressing is because my son has a mild autism and we have always asked our selfs what if so I am trying to eliminate as much harmfull things around him while pregnant as I can. We are told every day how this product or that chemical can harm us in this way or that (eg. plastic with 3 or 7 in the triangle) those are things that should not even be used for things that we eat and drink from. We are becoming "fix it" generation. We all have 20 different cleaning products. I remember my grandmother using vinigar and newspaper or rakija (which is a drink) to clean the windows. We are starting to realise that what we are doing is costing us a lot and making us sick. When I worked as a disability worker our clients used to get sick a lot when I asked the doctor why is that he said it was because their houses were too clean (we moped the floor 3 times a day) and as soon as they got in contact with a bug they got sick. Right now at my house we are down to just domestos and that is used only when I am not home because the smell of it makes me sick for a week.

Your reasoning for being stressed is very understandable. Our 7 year old daughter has mild autism as well so I know about that also. I am contantly looking things up and researching about autism since there isn't a reason proven that causes it. It would be a bit easier if we knew huh? Even though our daughter is with autism, I tried not to think about it too much with our son because I also had gestational diabetes with him so I had the added stress of that. The funny thing is that my doctor kept telling me not to stress and I told him that he should try it! So I had to not worry about those kind of things because of everything else to keep me healthy. But I do know how you feel and I am sorry to hear that your oldest child is with autism. I will keep you in my thoughts.

Yes it would be so much easier to know what are the reasons behind it. Its all fine untill you start going to the doctors and they keep asking things and testing there are so many things that could go wrong with the mother and the child. Everyone keeps asking "do you know what you are having" I dont care as long as its healthy.
