Depends on what I am making, but usually I use real potatoes in my soups. The type also varies by what I am making.

I like cooking with fresh potatoes. I do use the canned potatoes sometimes and I do keep them on hand. I usualy go with fresh no matter what I am cooking. I cook alot of potatoes too!

I do not buy canned potatoes. I have had them before, but I did not care for them. They have a strange texture to them that I do not like. I use fresh potatoes. Depending on what kind of soup it is sometimes I peel them and sometimes I do not.

The only way I eat potatoes are fresh or frozen. I don;t buy and don;t eat the canned potatoes as I think they are just gross. I use real potatoes in my soups and everything else. The only frozen potatoes I use are french fries and hash browns as it is quicker and they taste okay.
My sister makes instant mashed potatoes whenever she has company over. She makes all of our dinners on special occasions because she owns and lives behind her hairdressing shop and it is the only big enough place for all of us to get together. We put out one long table that we can all sit at, well actually a few tables put together. You can imagine how long it is by the amount of us. There are at least 40 of us in our immediate family and so the table has to be long enough for all 40 of us, and it is.
So when we now go to my sisters for dinner I go early and make real mashed potatoes. I hate the instant ones and so do most of my family members. But my sister seems to think they are okay and plans to make them everytime. I have told her we don't like them and she sees that no one eats them but I guess she feels if we want real ones then we can come and help her, which I always do now. We don;t live in the same city anymore, I moved away, but I go home alot, about 6 times a year so I get to join in the family things.

I don't make homemade soup but my mother and my husband do. They always use regular potatoes. Theo nly time my mother uses canned potatoes is when she makes Danish sugar potatoes (sugar coated potatoes) because the little canned ones don't fall apart the way the regular ones too, when she sugar-coats them.

I use whatever I have. If I have canned, that's what I use, if I have fresh russets or reds, that's what I use.

I use fresh potatoes, not canned. I dislike the canned; they seem fake to me.

I use fresh, usually white potatoes. I agree with you the canned potatoes do not taste good and their texture leaves much to be desired. I try to also use fresh carrots when making mine as well. My carrots, onions and potatoes always have to be fresh in my veggie soup. I can use canned peas, corn, beans and tomatoes though.

I am not big on anything that comes in a can except soup and that is only out of desperation or economy. I use fresh or frozen vegetables when cooking depending on what is available at a given time and the prices.

I have never used canned potatoes for anything. No one in my family has. I do not see the point, it is not that hard to use fresh potatoes.

I've never used canned potatoes. I don't do homemade soup very often at all, but every once in a while I make a beef veggie soup. I either use fresh potatoes, or frozen potatoes that come in a bag of mixed veggies that are specifically for soup. It depends on how much time I have, and if I have all the other veggies I need for it. I always keep a bag of the frozen soup veggies in the freezer.

I rarely use canned potatoes. I find that they taste funny and hte texture seems a bit different. In fact, I don't think I've used canned potatoes in maybe 10 or more years.
When I do use potatoes in my soups, I like to use the ones with the thinner skins like red or new potatoes. This way I don't have to peel them, and I like the texture they add to the soup.

I always use fresh potatoes... and i don't think i have ever bought canned potatoes ever... but i love to use fresh veggies on my soup or any dish that i make... the canned or frozen ones do not taste as good as the fresh ones... plus we are sure of the nutrition value and cleanliness of fresh vegetables...
I am not aware that there ar different kinds of potatoes... because i have only seen one kind...

My hubby likes to make soup. And he makes a pretty tasty potato soup. We use fresh potatoes. He prefers the gold potatoes. And sometimes he uses Russets. I guess it just depends on what we have handy.

that depends.
i think that the fresh potato should be better in nutrition cause they are more fresh, and i can just cook them anyway i want,in any flavour i like .
the only shortcoming is that it will takes me some time to do that ,
and if you just not good om cooking,
it may tastes not good as you want.
the canned ones is much more convinent, and the tastes would just be ok,
but those are not that fresh as the fresh ones.
overall, is like to do that myself if im free.
