Nettiquette

Aside from the guidelines we have to observe here in mylot, as online community we ought to observe the following rules; 1.) Don't type in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS; it's considered the equivalent of shouting. 2.) If you are asked for someone else's e-mail address, please ask the owner of that address before you pass it along. 3.) If you are going to quote e-mail you received from someone else in a public forum, such as a newsgroup, you would be wise to ask permission beforehand. At the very least, make sure you attribute the quote properly and show it in context. 4.) Do not flood the Net with your resume or business solicitations. This goes beyond rude, and the response you'll get will no doubt be beyond rude as well! 5.) When participating in newsgroups and mailing lists, try to resist the urge to post "I agree" and "me too!" responses to other people's posts. You can imagine how annoying it is to find a mailbox full of these. 6.) It is illegal to post copyrighted images, text, or software online. Major corporations (Playboy, Disney, Microsoft, and so on) now employ many Netsurfers whose job it is to find such items and find out who uploaded them. You don't want your name to end up on their lists. 7.) Don't type in the heat of the moment; you will regret it later. There's a time and a place for flaming (spouting off angrily at someone), but public forums are probably not it. 8.) Be careful about overusing resources: This includes those of your service provider, your school or employer, and the sites that provide Internet sources. Hi torchablazed I am so glad that you shared this. Indeed we are very careless while on net and otherwise as well. We fail to give credit to the copywriters most of the times. We plagiarise, we copy indiscriminately and we kind of make a mess of the whole utility on internet. This is sad. We must be responsible netizens and follow the net etiquette always. Great post!

I felt bad at times, when people use the net for abusively by the fact that it goes outside the four corners on whereever world we are in. In some instances though, we can see the real person by the way they post. Thanks mimpi for your compliment.

the reason i type in capital is on account of my bad eyesight. i never typed till i got a computer so i think i do well to type at all. i'm not shouting at anyone by tuping like that. sorry it offends u or anyone else.

Oh no antiquelady, I didnt know you did type like that I never did post this for a purpose of discrediting anyone and especially not you. As you see, it is not mine originally and it is a general rule to be observed while in the net, I didnt mean to offend you either or anyone else for that matter. I just post something which I think would be helpful.

I agree, inspite the fact that we are outside the four walls of our own world, the net is not necessarily a free zone but it also comprises other people like yourself who does deserve some respect like the real world. Thanks for dropping by and have a great day kiran!

Happy I am to read a reminder like this one. Since there is nobody to train you in this regard, so, it was more like 'go free' environment earlier. A lot of my friends have actually closed some of their mail boxes for being bombarded with SPAM mails. Besides, self-advocacy is important and if done to a limited extent it somehow pays off. I think, and very honestly speaking - I actually have seen, some of my friends do so to a little extent in real life. But when it comes to Internet, just because the audience is not standing immediately before our eyes, we tend to loose control. That's the reason to set a limit. I had the opportunity to read few tips at Squidoo. Regarding promotion, they say - promote yourself using social media without getting boring. This line of control is very much important. Thanks for your valued input. It helps us towards self-enrichment.

It is indeed very helpful and what we all need, sometimes, I felt bad over those who doesnt have at least some sort of respect to other people online. I think a person will show who he was no matter where he would go. Thanks for the response.

Your welcome my dear, we need to be reminded at times too, cause, we ourselves need to track if we are still head on for rules in or out the cyberspace.
