The processing time on a laptop to burn and rip cds/dvds is really s...l...o...w. I was able to benchmark mine's and my little brother's laptop and his beat me by 20 minutes. Perhaps it's the processor, it's the burner or the memory. I prefer the laptop to do clerical and data entry work over gaming and multimedia. However, I love to get my hands under the hood and sometimes add more parts. It's not so easy with a laptop where everything is condensed. It's mobile for one reason, on the go and that seems to fit most people's lives, even mines for the most part. The bulky paperweight of yesterday is more for servers and networks now. I chose the laptop for convenience rather than quality. Otherwise, I would love to carry my desktop around, if I could.

hands - Laptops are more expensive and they are hard to get your hands into.
Personally I am a desktop person. I don't travel and I do my own computer maintaining as much as I can. Laptops are more expensive and they are hard to get your hands into.

I have a desktop. Never had a laptop but always wanted one. My son works on copmuters says that laptops are junk. Still i wished i had one. Maybe one day i will. I can see benifits to having one. The desk top he says can do better than a laptop. I love my desktop just fine.

I don't do traveling too much, and if I were to travel around, I barely use my laptop. I prefer desktops more, because they tend to have a better performance over the laptops. With desktops, you can easily upgrade any parts you would want to upgrade, like motherboard, harddrive, memory, optical drives, fans, cpu... you name it!! But what I really don't like about desktop is that obviously it's not portable, and that's pretty much it, I guess. With laptop, yes, it is handy and you can carry it around all you want. You can still use the laptop while it is not plugged into the ac outlet, depending on how much battery you have. But what I really don't like about the laptop is that it gets extremely hot pretty quickly, which is why you would want to purchase laptop cooler. On the other hand, you can't really upgrade the laptops as much as you can with desktop... all the parts you can upgrade laptops are harddrive, cpu, and memory... anything else? can you upgrade motherboard and speakers and the video cards yourself for your laptop? i don't think so...

They both are good for their own points. You can carry your work around on a laptop, but sometimes working for longer time on a Laptop becomes a pain, but that work on the desktop becomes easy. Some other aspects like power and multi tasking are eased on the desktop while on the laptop, you gotta work constricted. But laptops can be very helpful when you have to present a seminar as you an have all your stuff at the place where you want to. Other than that most laptops can be controlled via a remote control and it helps a lot while doing such stuff. bourne

I have both a laptop and desktop... the desktop was more for personal use, gaming, and experiments. The laptop was for travel, for when I am on the move, mostly for work purposes. Laptops are preferred by most people nowadays due to it's mobility, that has always been the main reason people buy laptops. You can use it in a restaurant, in a shop, in public transport or at college, meeting rooms and client sites. Desktops still have a purpose, especially for higher range workstations or servers, and for gamers, power-hungry applications, expandability and long-term upgradeability and flexibility. One very important point, is the price difference. Desktops are much cheaper. Unless you have a real reason to require a desktop, laptops are the way to go.

We have one of each, desktop and laptop, but my husband and I also access the web with other things as well. My Treo is never far from hand, he surfs on his PSP, also uses his Wii for occasional surfing. Each has it's place. For non-work surfing, it's very nice to sit on the couch and web-browse while watching tv and having idle chat. I think of the desktop for more mission-specific, task-oriented stuff. Husband and I will read to each other, and comment on, whatever little on-line topics we are pursuing. Desktop systems tend to point your face away from other people, whereas a laptop or smaller device allows for more interaction.

I prefer working on a laptop when I am at work, I prefer to work on a desktop when I am at home. A desktop is more powerful than a laptop.

arunmails for me my preference is my desktop computer as I am too old to want to dangle a clumsy laptop on my lap, and I like the fact that a desktop is definitely better made and more 'easily programmed. I will let the collegekids and the young business men have at the laptops. I will keep my trusty desk top and be thankful I have it. lol.

Hi there. It all depends. I mean if your work often requires business trip, and also have to check information even at off work time, then a laptop will be a better choice. But as for me, I use a desktop in the office and it's not so fragile as a laptop and I seldom maintain it.As we all know that a desktop is more steady and powerful than a notebook. I also have a laptop at home and it's nothing to do with work because I needn't to bring my work home and get it done. It is only a 1.3kgs thinkpad and very convienent to carry and everywhere I go for a short trip, I'd like to bring it with me. It has become my friend and I can't go through even a day without checking it. And still, I plan to buy a desktop when I am settled in a new house, with a larger screen, lol.

well for me, I like Laptops, but the problem is, that I don't have the money to buy one.. LOL.. hehe, So I use Desktop, I have my computer at home, and I'm using an old one, But still, it has its function, and can still handle some games and other application, the key is, you just have to replace some parts, and upgrade them, so that your computer will still on its best.. hehe.. and yes, Laptop is sure handy, and cool, you just have to deploy it anywhere, and ola! there you go, but the problem is, that it only gives you a specific amount of time, cause when it turns low batt, then that's your end.. LOL.. you have to plug it in.. And when it comes to parts, Laptop parts are so expensive, it will almost cost a 2 desktop computers, hehe,, and very rare parts, so that's it, I really like Laptops.. LOL.. What am I saying.. hehe.. Have a nice day, and Happy MyLotting.. ^_^

Laptop! I like to take my computer everywhere! Not just outside the house, but also in the house. My boyfriend even takes his laptop sometimes to the bathroom! I like to go on the internet while sitting in the livingroom in front of the television. It's also good to look movies everywhere. And on vacation.
