My family (husband, me, 9 year old daughter, 4 1/2 year old daughter and my 14 year old nephew) are going camping for Halloween this year. We are going to a campground that looks like so much fun! They are doing trick or treating, hay rides, pumpkin carving, glass etching and a scarecrow making contest. We were told it might be a good idea to go ahead and get the head ready before we come then all we have to do is the body. We're going to do the head out of an old nylon. Anyway, we need creative ideas for our scarecrow and I'm looking for some input. My girls so far have said they think they want a girl scarecrow but also said they weren't sure. So does anybody have a winning idea? I'm open to all suggestions.

Make a yarn braid that is long enough to go over the head and hang clear to the shoulders, all one braid, in suitable hair color. Stitch it in the middle onto the top of the head. Stitch on bangs if you want them, straight from the braid. Buy or make a big bonnet to cover the back of the head. Peasant style shirt. Large full apron. Boot style shoes, long skirt, or jeans. Stuff body with wadded up newspaper, but get enough straw to stick out the arms and legs and around the neck, then it will look like the whole thing is made out of hay or straw. Hope you have a good time.

Definitely love the hair tips. And the best part about your description is the full apron. I really love that! Thank you and I'll be sure to let you know how we do in the contest.
