What is the origin of "lbs", the abbreviated form for pounds?

lbs is the abbreviation indicated for weight one pound. The word from which it has been derived is from'Libra' in Latin !For further enquiry and details I would request you to refer any good dictionary or thesarus! Thanks ! Good topic of discussion!

lb was born of the £ sign which is really an old fashioned letter L written in a way to show its use is for a symbol or abbreviation. The L stands for a Latin word "Libra" which is a Roman unit of weight.
